Public benefits
• What: The provision of physical education, personal development and life skills activities • Who: for young people aged between 5 and 25 from both sides of the Northern Ireland community and from the migrant worker community • Where: living in the Armagh, Banbridge and Craigavon Council area Public Benefit Statement The trustees believe that
our purpose satisfies both elements of the public benefit requirement. The direct benefits which flow from this purpose include improved physical and mental health; reduction in anti-social activity; improved employment and educational prospects and reduction in poverty. These benefits are demonstrated through feedback from participants measured through regular evaluations in the form of questionnaires, focus groups and a comments wall and from parents and schools measured through stakeholder feedback. This purpose does not give rise to any harm. The beneficiaries are young people aged between 5-25 living in the area covered by Armagh, Banbridge and Craigavon Council and the extended family of these young people. A private benefit to trustees may arise from our programme of ongoing training in good governance, finance etc. Through this training trustees gain skills and experience which are transferable to other settings. These benefits are incidental and necessary to ensure the benefit is provided to our beneficiaries.
What your organisation does
The Karmel Foundation provides a range of diversionary activities for young people in the Armagh, Banbridge, Craigavon Council Area. These include archery, baseball batting cages, crazy golf and team building activities and provide positive alternatives for young people which will help in their personal development and improve social cohesion.
Karmel works in partnership with Youth Clubs, Church Groups, Sports Clubs and Community Organisations to provide activities for their members and promotes its facilities through a website and Facebook page. Karmel operates three evenings each week in a customised unit based at the Brownstown Business Centre and activities are supervised by 3 staff who are all Access NI checked. Occasionally groups of young people are taken to other facilities such as Segway training in Craigavon.
