Public benefits

We have 4 charitable purposes: The first two purposes are very much interlinked: advancing education and to promote and celebrate music and the creative arts. Our beneficiaries will be mainly mature musicians, songwriters and other creative arts performers over the age of 50 years but it is open to anyone in Belfast primarily but not

exclusively. The direct benefit from these purposes is that the beneficiaries will have a safe environment in which to come together to network, practice their art and learn about the music industry. Participants will gain the knowledge and expertise needed to progress their potential in the music industry or the arts. We aim to build a community to provide a platform for older voices to be heard in the music industry and creative arts. It also provides them with a platform in which to perform which also benefits the general public who can come and appreciate the music. In doing this we also will reduce isolation, loneliness as well as building self confidence and self esteem. The benefits will be evidenced through the number of older musicians and songwriters who come together to practice and the number of performances that they participate in. We will also ask for feedback from participants on activities and workshops so that we continue to provide a safe place for them. Purpose 3: The beneficiaries of our third purpose are older people and people with dementia in residential and day care settings. The charitable purpose being to relieve their need by promoting the enjoyment of and participation in live music. The direct benefit from this purpose is to bring enjoyment to the beneficiaries and to help reduce their isolation. By helping the beneficiaries to participate in live music and be involved in creative activities will help their mental and physical capacities. The benefits will be evidenced through the number of residents who take part in these activities. The activities will be continually evaluated with both the residents and the staff. Our fourth purpose is to promote equality and diversity using music and the creative arts as a medium to bring people together from different backgrounds and different age groups. The direct benefit that will come from this purpose is that by bringing people of different ages, ethnic and cultural backgrounds together, they will the opportunity to learn and engage with others that they may not have had the opportunity to before. Participants will have a better understanding of each other’s cultural background which in turn should help them embrace their differences and celebrate diversity. By bringing different age groups together we aim to challenge myths and stereotypes around aging. The benefits will be evidenced through the numbers of people participating from different cultural backgrounds and different age groups. We will continually evaluate and ask participants for feedback on what they are learning from each other and from the arts.

What your organisation does

Over The Hill provides a platform for older musicians to come together to perform, collaborate and learn about the music industry. We offer the opportunity to work together regardless of age race or religion and provide a safe and welcoming setting for people to express themselves creatively. This is done once per month at the Oh Yeah Music

Centre. We also provide people the opportunity to record their music , tour and play external gigs throughout NI. Over the Hill also works with people with Dementia and proves live music which enables people to enjoy music and to use this as a platform and vehicle to reminiscence. This work causes no harm to any of the people we work with, and has very positive outcomes noted above.
