Public benefits
The benefits that flow from our purposes are twofold as we propose to initiate a programme of community education thereby relieving educational poverty. As well as running classes in a number of subjects, we intend to make material available to help residents learn. The benefits will again be manifested in different ways with children taking a
greater interest in education, adults being given the chance to broaden their knowledge thus enhance their position in the job market and older people finding something constructive and enjoyable to do in retirement. The additional benefits of these combined purposes will be to instil a sense of community thereby negating the negative effects of loneliness and a sense of achievement which will help improve the health and general wellbeing of all residents as it crosses gender and intergenerational differences. • The benefits will be demonstrated openly and transparently with the community in all its forms and sections becoming more and more involved in our activities (classes, talks, flyers workshops etc). We have had a community audit carried out to ascertain the needs, wants and desires of the community and we intend to make this a bi-annual means of collating essential information. We will evidence the work we will be engaged in by monitoring and evaluating out programmes to ensure they are succeeding in helping our beneficiaries in every possible way. This will not simply be a theoretical outreach work but will require participation and promote community cohesion. • The beneficiaries include everyone living within the area of benefit. The Association and the activities we are involved in and intend to roll out will be open to everyone, regardless of age, gender, religious or political affiliation. The principal beneficiaries will be those people (above) but will also have a positive effect on family members and friends as the lot of the beneficiaries continues to improve. • There will be no private benefit flowing from the purposes described here. The only benefit will be to those who avail of the services we provide and will continue to provide, We have already made a good impact on the community by providing a new play area, attending to footpaths, succeeding in having extra lighting installed and taking care of grass cutting which council budgets could not sustain. We are also building a new community hall with full disability access upstairs and down. We have taken a fairly isolated community and galvanised it, bringing former strangers together as neighbours and facilitating cooperation within the village and its hinterland which has led to a greater degree of respect, understanding and mutual support. • There will be no harm whatsoever flowing from or associated in any way with the purposes. No one will be excluded or discriminated against in any way. We will revise our policies as we go and if anything at all looks like it may have even the least element of risk attached, we will draw up a risk register to ensure there is no harm at all to anyone.
What your organisation does
Our organisation seeks to create opportunities whereby the people living within the area of benefit can come together in community projects and events that will encourage community cohesion and promote greater understanding and participation. We organise community events like Fun Days and Barbecues where the people of the area can come together and
share experiences and knowledge. We also have music classes to allow the youth of the village and hinterland to learn new skills and have new experiences. These events and projects lead to non monetary benefits such as senses of achievement, confidence and tapping into unknown abilities.
