Public benefits
Fivemiletown Estates Group (FEG) meets the public benefit requirement by providing a wide range of activities which in turn provides a benefit to the local residents of Fivemiletown. Residents who avail of services and activities through the club benefit socially and mentally through engagement, reducing social isolation and increasing confidence
in the area. Residents experience a direct benefit through this engagement at activities, social outings etc. which results in the creation of new relationships and friendships, positive thinking and sharing of experiences. All ages, nationalities etc are involved and as a result there is a direct public benefit. The local community indirectly benefit as a result of the Estates groups production of a newsletter distributed throughout the local area. The Estates Group also attends Housing Community Network and Inter Agency meetings were they bring forward issues happening within the local area eg environmental issues such as paving, water ponding etc., anti social behaviour etc. The relevant agencies then take action and resolve the problems. As a result, the local community indirectly benefit as the group take up the issues and work for the betterment of the area thus making residents happy. The Estates Group works for the wider benefit of the community and surrounding area – the Group increases good mental health through the engagement of older people, restoring confidence and reducing social isolation. It also increases the understanding of older people and increases awareness of the need of engagement of older people. As a result, the wider benefit is the confidence within the community and local residents. FEG promotes equality of opportunity between people as per the Northern Ireland Act 1998 section 75 based on the following nine characteristics; 1. Age 2. Having or not having a disability 3. What your organisation does
FEG has been involved in a wide range of activities - 2 committee members attend the Housing Community Network meeting which is held twice a year in the local Dungannon Housing Executive offices. The meeting discusses the performance and programme of works that the housing Ex are carrying out across the district. The group then feed this back to
the local community through engagement with residents, newsletters, facebook etc FEG have a local inter agency meeting twice a year in which issues are discussed with various agencies such as the local Council, Housing Ex, PSNI, Transport NI and so on. Again, this is fed back to the local residents. The group also have an estate walkabout once a year to identify/pick up issues which need resolved. The group have been successful in awards for all funding in the past which enabled them to organized various personal and professional development style classes - food hygiene, health and safety, jewellery making and so on. The group also have organized various trips away for local residents which were enjoyed by all.
