Public benefits

The Community Development Association (‘the Group’) is not currently active, but it is hoped that in the near future the Group will begin operating again. The main purposes of the Group will be: 1. the promotion of community and rural development; 2. an increase in social interaction; 3. the advancement of education; and 4. contribution

to the relief of poverty. The public benefits for the Ballymaguigan area are expected to be: 1. an increase in awareness of programmes & funding available for community and rural development; 2. improved community life arising from the provision of programmes and activities aimed at promoting social interaction; 3. enhanced education, particularly in the young and elderly; and 4. relief for the poor through improvement of living conditions and an increase in awareness of benefit entitlement. We will track the benefits/ progress primarily through the following: 1. The number of programmes or events which are completed; 2. The number of people attending programmes as well as the number of people volunteering to help; and 3. Invite feedback participating groups and through questionnaires and evaluations. We do not anticipated there to be any harm caused to the local community or the environment. The beneficiaries are expected to be the local community, particularly young people aged 21 and under and the elderly. Individuals in the community benefit from the provision of services and activities which promote social inclusion. There are also potential private benefits for individuals resulting from greater awareness of programmes & funding available for rural regeneration and greater awareness of the services of other charities. In particular young people benefit through the promotion of education and the availability of the annual summer scheme. Elderly people in the area benefit through the weekly use of the community facilities and from the social interaction which this brings.
