Public benefits
Public Benefit: The direct benefits which flow from this purpose include improved knowledge and education that arises from the provision of information to the public which will increase understanding of local history, culture and the background of the region in and around Donaghmore. The benefits are evidenced through various ways which include:
public attendance and interest in our local history lectures, research projects, and community development through cross-community social events, which our volunteers run free of charge. The direct benefits which flow from this purpose are: provision of a local archive that promotes, sustains and increases individual knowledge, expertise and understanding of the history of Donaghmore for present and future generations. This will enable further research and development by the public through access to the archive of works, and a permanent expanding archive of material on all aspects of local history in hard copy and online. This information is available to everyone free of charge. The group’s activities bring about improved education, training, health and well-being outcomes through local provision in the community, and reduced levels of social isolation, stress and anxiety, through the promotion of culture, arts, and heritage. These benefits are demonstrated through feedback from beneficiaries and attendees at our meetings, events, classes and activities using: evaluation forms, surveys, verbal feedback, and evaluation of our activities. There is no harm anticipated from these purposes. The charity’s beneficiaries are primarily the inhabitants of Donaghmore and its surrounding environs within the Dungannon & South Tyrone area. A private benefit to Trustees may arise from our ongoing services and programmes of history, cultural, educational, leisure and recreational activities: information, archives, training, events, and networking visits. Through this, Trustees gain services, cultural awareness, leisure activities, information, skills, and experience which are transferable to other settings, and which may benefit their own community group or area. Our own Trustees receive information, services and activities in the same way as other beneficiaries, and are assigned support, information and services in the same ways as other beneficiaries. These benefits are incidental and necessary to ensure the benefit is provided to our beneficiaries.
What your organisation does
Donaghmore Historical Society meets every month to organise and hold events, lectures, exhibitions, outings, and open days of an historical nature for international visitors and the local community. The society carries out numerous research projects, provides support for genealogical research, archaeological projects, and publishes books on local
historical and cultural issues to advance historical, cultural and archaeological interest, education and knowledge, and to mix socially and raise funds for the Group. The group socializes and meets with other similar groups in the local area, and beyond, to network and share information. All of the events are run on a voluntary basis and are for the benefit of all the entire community.
