Public benefits

The direct benefits that flow from these objects include improved health outcomes and a reduction in the risk of onset of poor health. It will enhance independence; reduce the effects of isolation; promote positive mental wellbeing; improve physical health; increase life expectancy rates; and enhance the quality of life. The public benefits are

evidenced by the numbers of people participating and using our services; internal and external qualitative and quantitative assessments; performance monitoring feedback from our funders; production of an annual report; independently reviewed financial accounts; evaluation reports; self-feedback from our patrons; audits; and stakeholder responses. Services include provision of centre based physical activity in a community gym/spin studio and physical activity outreach classes throughout the community using a range of external venues and facilities in partnership with stakeholders. Patrons can self-refer or be referred by a health professional, relative or friend. Staff and volunteers are regularly updated and trained on child protection; keeping adults safe; first aid; and the organisation has a training plan to ensure professional skills and knowledge are updated and maintained. Educational programmes are usually offered to the general public but sometimes these can be targeted to meet an identified need, e.g. access to ICT is a generic programme but it could also be integrated into a programme for participants with poor mental wellbeing. Counselling and mentoring is carried out by qualified staff and/or volunteers, who also signpost to other therapeutic and support services. Services also involve members of the public accessing a wide range of educational materials to encourage self-help for managing a health condition or social problem. Some activities promote volunteering including our walk leaders and our running leader courses. The organisation encourages communities to work together to support each other by carrying out small reciprocal tasks. We also facilitate an oil club. Using community development approaches, we support and nurture these volunteers. There is no private benefit flowing from the purpose of our organisation as we operate on a not for profit basis. The organisation does not use medicines or drugs in any of its interventions. All work is evidenced based and approved by our stakeholders. All accidents, incidents and near misses are logged and reviewed by a sub-group. Equipment is maintained and repaired as necessary. The companies policies, procedures and protocols and displayed in the main office. New staff and volunteers receive an induction into the organisation. All work is risk assessed and reviewed annually. It is perceived that there is no risk from the work carried out by the organisation.
