Public benefits

The benefits that flow from this purpose include the improvements to physical and mental health achieved through playing cricket regularly on a competitive basis, the improvement in playing skills achieved by young people who participate in coaching courses organised under the auspices of the Union, and the making available of these benefits to

hitherto under-represented participant groups, including women and girls and people with a disability. These benefits are demonstrated through feedback from clubs and schools and periodic surveys conducted by Cricket Ireland and Sport NI. The intended beneficiaries are all people – men, women, the able-bodied and the disabled – who wish to participate in club or schools’ competitions, coaching courses or other developmental activities organised under the auspices of the Union. The only potential for harm that we have identified is the risk of injury or other harm during play or practice. This risk is mitigated by: •encouraging safe play and practice, in particular through the adoption of the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) bowling and fielding restrictions for young players; •requiring, as part of Club Accreditation, that clubs have safe facilities and access to first aid; and •requiring all members to comply with the terms of the Code of Ethics and Good Practice for Children’s Sport in Ireland.

What your organisation does

The Union acts as the Governing Body for club and schools' cricket in its area, running league and cup competitions for adults and a wide range of junior age-groups. It also organises interprovincial representative teams in a range of age-groups and the associated regional development squads, whose members receive fitness training and coaching as

well as taking part in preparatory matches and tours.
