Public benefits

Trustees believe that our purpose satisfies the public benefit requirement. Brainwaves NI supports children and adults who are suffering or have suffered from brain tumours, and their families and carers in Northern Ireland without discrimination of age, gender, disability, sexual orientation, nationality, ethnic identify, political or religious

opinion. The benefit is the improved health and well-being for those availing of Brainwaves NI services and the brain tumour research it funds. These benefits are evidenced through internal service evaluation and formal and informal feedback from those who benefit from our services. Brainwaves NI purpose does not lead to harm. A private benefit to some trustees may arise from training in advocacy. Through this training, these trustees gain an awareness and understanding. These benefits are incidental and necessary to ensure the benefit is provided to our beneficiaries.

What your organisation does

Brainwaves NI is dedicated to providing support and information to those people affected by a brain tumour. We provide support and information for children and adults affected by a brain tumour and their families and carers by: • providing information and signposting to appropriate and accurate quality materials; • raising awareness of the needs

of those recently diagnosed and those living with a brain tumour; • hosting information events and support networks; and • funding brain tumour research.

Charitable purposes

Brainwaves NI supports children and adults who are suffering or have suffered from brain tumours, and their families and carers (hereinafter called 'the beneficiaries) in Northern Ireland (hereinafter called 'the area of benefit') without discrimination of age, gender, disability, sexual orientation, nationality, ethnic identify, political or religious opinion and in particular to: • provide or assist in the provision of resources or facilities for the beneficiaries in the area of benefit not normally provided by the statutory authorities; • provide relief for the beneficiaries in the area of benefit by the provision of support services to them and by linking to appropriate networks of self-help groups; • provide recreational facilities for the beneficiaries in the interest of social welfare with the objects of improving the quality of life for the beneficiaries; • fund or carry out research into the causes, treatment and cure of brain tumours and where appropriate ensure that the results of the such research are disseminated.
