ADVANCEMENT OF THE EVANGELICAL CHRISIAN FAITH The Trust seeks to equip men and women to understand the evangelical Christian faith as set out in the Bible. The direct benefits which flow from this purpose are an understanding and appreciation of what the Bible teaches about who God is and what he has done for humanity through the life death and
resurrection of his son, the Lord Jesus Christ. Having a right understanding of this enables appropriate explanation of the truth of the Bible in ways which are gracious and reasonable. A clear understanding of what the Bible teaches and of its implications for those who follow the Christian faith leads to a desire to live responsibly and productively within society, having due regard for its laws and seeking to care for others and showing concern and compassion for the vulnerable. The indirect benefits which flow from this purpose include the moral improvement in society as a whole which religion is considered to encourage. ADVANCEMENT OF EDUCATION The Trust runs the Cornhill Training Course, a one year course which trains men and women in how to understand the Bible and communicate it effectively through preaching and teaching it. Students of the course are taught key principles of biblical preaching and encouraged through personal study to develop their skills in expounding biblical truth in a way which is accessible and readily comprehensible. Students are also engaged in ministry in local churches, where they endeavour to enable people to understand more clearly the teaching of the Bible and how it applies in contemporary society. The direct benefits which flow from this purpose are: - the spiritual, moral and intellectual development, through receiving teaching from the Bible, of our students - the development of individual skills and capabilities of our students as they minister in local churches The indirect benefits which flow from this purpose include: - A benefit for those churches throughout Northern Ireland attended by our students, who benefit from increased involvement of our students and the development of their skills. All of the above benefits will be evidenced through the evident increase in the students’ knowledge and understanding, as evidenced by what they say in class and in their interaction with one another and with those teaching them. The students can themselves see their confidence increasing as they seek to articulate what they believe and why and this is something which is also evident to the families and friends of students on the course. Those within churches and beyond, are able to see the benefit which comes as students become more confident, articulate and engaging and as they in turn become good role models to others. The charity’s beneficiaries are the students on the course, who benefit from the teaching they receive in helping them to understand the Bible better and improve the communication of their faith. They are also enabled to see whether or not they might be suited to a future career in a church or some other Christian organisation. There are also benefits to the churches in which the students serve, as they are often able, by virtue of the course, to take on more responsibility and thus further the work of the church. Through clear teaching of the Bible, they are able to influence others and enable them to live in ways, which seek to better society. The only private benefit flowing from our purposes is related to the employment of Rev Moore Casement, the director of the course, who receives benefits as a result of their employment. However, we consider this to be incidental and necessary in order to further our charitable purposes. There are no other private benefits. We do not anticipate that any harm will flow from either of the above purposes.
