Public benefits

The direct benefits which flow from this purpose include the availability of on-going support; improved educational outcomes; improved emotional wellbeing; increased confidence and self-esteem; a greater desire to participate both in the programmes of the organisation and the wider community; an increase in social skills; greater understanding and

appreciation of difference and diversity; development of citizenship and leadership skills; promotion of healthier lifestyle including reducing damaging behaviour; learning new practical skills; an increased spiritual development and sense of purpose in the lives of young people. These benefits are evidenced through numerous evaluative processes; the staff team meet weekly to review the past week to ensure we are maintaining, delivering and developing our work in a manner which is appropriate and relevant to the young people we work with and the community we work in; we have procedures in place for our volunteers to evaluate each project and programme they are involved in after every session with a member of the staff team; biannually we meet with our volunteers individually to listen to their experiences and observations about every aspect they are involved with and to hear their recommendations for further youth work development and enhanced volunteer experience. For many of our funded projects and programmes we are required to record a detailed evaluation to ensure we have met the agreed aims and objectives outlined in the original project or programme proposal as well as stating the outputs, outcomes and impact of the project or programme; as a staff and volunteer team we meet to discuss non funded projects and programmes and make a record of our discussion in order to shape and develop the project or programme for future delivery; annually we produce a series of video interviews with young people who participate in a variety of our projects or programmes and these interviews help to assess the impact we are having and how we are equipping and assisting them in their personal, social, emotional and spiritual development; these interviews also help us to understand and address further needs in the lives of our young people and the local community. Qualitative feedback comes in various forms and this is evidenced through videos with parties such as school principals, local police officers and parents, and demonstrates how our work has been of benefit to them. Articles in the local press demonstrate where key stakeholders describe and detail the impact and benefit of our projects and programmes for the young people we are working with and the communities we are working in. Regularly our qualitative feedback comes from causal conversations with other service providers we partner with and we use this to shape and develop what projects and programmes we deliver, how we deliver them and who we deliver them to. As part of our partnership with the Education Authority we are required to keep an account of our average attendance records for our drop-in sessions; as part of Youth for Christ NI we are required annually to undertake a chartering process which enumerates our average attendance and records what projects and programmes we have delivered; we also keep a record for one off projects and programmes where a certain level of participant attendance is required to successfully complete the project/programme or to gain an accreditation or reward. There is no identifiable harm to any person through the pursuit of the purpose. The beneficiaries of this purpose are primarily the young people and young adults in Comber. Directors, volunteers and staff of Comber Youth for Christ may gain skills and experience, personal and professional development opportunities and an increased sense of wellbeing though their role. This benefit is both incidental and necessary and ensures that they have the necessary knowledge and skills to enable them to effectively discharge their duties.
