What your organisation does
1. We assist ethnic communities to integrate into the local community and to encourage friendship and understanding between different ethnic communities. 2. We ensure that genuine integration is achieved between the local community and those coming to live in our midst from very different cultural and social backgrounds, while at the same time
encouraging our new neighbours to share their traditions and cultures, making for a more vibrant and diverse society. 3. Through our advice services we provide the practical support necessary to enable our ethnic members to access all services, public and private on an equal footing with other members of the community. 4. Deliver anti-racism and cultural awareness programmes, especially through our schools and youth clubs with the goal of achieving community cohesion. 5. We facilitate a Community Cohesion Unit (CCU) which currently brings together service providers from 12 different statutory and community organizations on a regular basis to ensure equality for minority ethnic groups at a broader community level. 6. Carry out research work into the reality and needs of ethnic communities in the Omagh District area, particularly by compiling statistical data to help us identify areas of concern. 7. Organize capacity building initiatives that help members of ethnic communities get more involved in voluntary work, have the confidence to sit on committees and become more proactive in shaping a more culturally open community. 8. Organize a Friendship Club which gives our ethnic members the opportunity to interact and socialize with the local community through participation in different activities; arts and crafts, health therapies, presentations, family outings.
