Public benefits
The Club meets the Public benefit requirement as follows: The Club was established to advance amateur indoor bowling to people without distinction of age, gender, disability both physical and mental, sexual orientation, nationality, ethnic identity, class, marital status, political or religious opinion, ill health, financial hardship or other
disadvantage. The Club operates within the Banbridge and Craigavon Areas, (hereafter called the area of benefit). Thus the objects of the Club fall under the 7th purpose stated in the Charities Act 2008, i.e. the advancement of amateur sport. The direct benefits, which flow from this purpose, include: learning a new skill, enjoyment, reduction of social isolation, an improvement in the mental and physical health of the participants through concentration, dexterity and agility. Other benefits include the education of the young and the promotion of participation by, and the integration of those with a disability. The beneficiaries are the general public within the Craigavon and Banbridge areas. The public valuation of the benefits can be evidenced through attendance at the Club; participation in Club governance; the number of members willing to play in the West Down League, enter competitions at West Down Zone Level, National Level (organised by Irish Indoor Bowling Association), and local clubs; the willingness to promote the Club’s high reputation within the West Down league; those chosen to play in the junior, women and men’s Zone Teams; and feedback from members. The wider benefits to the public will outweigh any detriment arising in the course of Club activities. A possible private benefit to trustees flowing from this purpose is the gaining of skills and experience, which are transferable to other settings such as coaching within other community groups. This benefit is incidental and essential to ensure the benefit is provided to our beneficiaries. Trustees fulfilling their trustee responsibilities in respect of organising Club activities receive no remuneration, reward or private benefit. There is no harm arising from this purpose.
