Public benefits

The public benefit for the advancement of community development is a direct benefit. The centre we run is a place where people feel free to get to know one another. The Armoy community benefit directly as community life for all its inhabitants is improved. This is demonstrated through the usage of the centre. The association encourages every member

of our community to be an active citizen. We provide the basis for community initiatives to develop, including the Over 55s club and the summer scheme. The participation by a wide section of our community shows that we benefit the public by providing opportunities for them to develop their citizenship of our community. The public benefit for relief of those in need is a direct benefit for the people who partake in the programmes offered by the Association. Programmes like the annual summer scheme give a holiday to those who cannot afford to go on holiday. It eases the burden of poverty as the younger section of the pupil who are impoverished can have a parity of experience with those who can afford to go on holiday. To the section of the public who are unemployed, the association provides volunteering opportunities in the centre and in the community gardens. This lifts the monotony of the day for those who are unemployed. This indirectly benefits the entire community who enjoy seeing a more pleasant environment in the village. The advancement of educational opportunities for, the aged and young alike; leads to the direct public benefit of the heightening in knowledge and understanding. For the young of Armoy, our programme increases their chances of employability as they are able to develop their skills set from the programmes offered by the organisation including youth programmes where young people can develop their technology skills in video-making. The wider benefit is that young people will find employment and will have a more fulfilling youth after education. For the aged, our association provides an Over 55's club which creates benefits of life-long learning experiences for the aging members of our community and over 55s club. This experience is one that is educational, but also social. This programme, in a social sense, benefits the aging members of our community by giving them the opportunity to get to know one another and to make new friends from all sides in our community, whilst personally developing different skills and hobbies. The benefit is that their mental and physical health is likely to improve because they are active. The advancement of conflict resolution and reconciliation leads to people feeling safer in our communities, and people being able to move on from the past. The indirect benefit of the advancement of reconciliation is that the services and businesses in Armoy prosper, as when people feel safe they can socialise and use services nearest to their home. The businesses and other clubs gain more support as people use services run by both sides of the community, not just one side. The wider benefit to society in Northern Ireland, in general, is that reconciliation can happen, and does happen in interface communities, and thus NI gains an impetus from what our Association does, to continue in the journey of reconciliation. The promotion of the inhabitants of Armoy, leads to people in Armoy feeling valued and worthy. This promotion benefits the inhabitants of Armoy, as they feel liberated from the ‘small-village’ mentality that they may have hitherto succumbed. When their work and membership of our community is recognised, they grow as individuals able to contribute more to community life. All the activities and purposes of Armoy Community Association are beneficial to the public, without distinction. By no means do any of the activities or purposes of the organisation cause harm and provides no private benefit to members.
