Public benefits
As a provider of pre-school education, Little Oaks offers significant public benefits. The primary function is to provide quality teaching and learning experiences to approximately 50 children who are not of compulsory school age. These children follow the statutory Northern Ireland pre-school curriculum which promotes their all-round physical,
social, intellectual and moral development. Outcomes are clearly demonstrated through ongoing internal monitoring and evaluation processes and by inspection from the Education and Training Inspectorate. Over its 18 years existence, Little Oaks has been consistently evaluated as very good or better. In addition, regular inspections by Social Services confirm further that LO provides a safe, caring and regulated environment for the children and staff; detailed safe-guarding procedures are rigidly adhered to, Health & Safety regulations are understood and met, and risk assessments are carried out for any activity outside our normal day-to-day programme. There is no harm or private benefit.
What your organisation does
In addition to the above, we carry out a training function through the placement of NVQ child care trainees and promote community development and cohesion through a variety of social and seasonal events. The involvement of parents is very actively encouraged and seen as a key element of the community / family ethos of the group. Parents sit on the
management committee and assist with social activities and educational visits. Great importance is placed on the ongoing training and development of the staff and opportunities, either individually or at whole staff level, are sought to increase the skills, knowledge and expertise of all involved.
