Purpose Two To continue to secure the establishment of a Community Centre and to maintain and manage or to co-operate with any local statutory authority (DCC) in the maintenance and management of such a centre for activities promoted by the Association and its constituent bodies in furtherance of the above projects. The direct benefit which flows from this purpose is the provision of a Community Centre which is under the remit of Derry City and Strabane District Council. This community centre is in a central location within the estate and is seen as a neutral and shared space. This is demonstrated through the provision of a community kitchen, main hall, games room, computer suite and staff offices which are fully accessible to all service users. These benefits are incidental and necessary to ensure the benefit is provided to our beneficiaries.

What your organisation does

LCYCA manage a purpose -built local authority community centre within the Lincoln Courts estate. Our group is a grass-roots community group set up to try and improve the life for the residents within the area and the surrounding areas. The main activities of our group include running the youth club which is run 5 days a week for 3 different age

groups, up to eighteen years old. Activities also include the Senior Citizens luncheon club, the Parent & Toddlers group, older peoples programme and the Women’s group. We try to encourage the older residents to participate in various activities within the community. There are also a number of clinics available which include Welfare rights, Housing Executive and other relevant statutory bodies. The main focus of our activities has been through the youth club which has reached out to all young people within the estate and the surrounding areas to provide them with new opportunities and experiences, to divert them from the ongoing temptation to get involved with anti-social behaviour.
