Public benefits

Purpose To promote and develop the Irish language in the Newry area through the medium of drama. What benefit flows from this purpose? The annual drama festival increases community cohesion and a sense of inclusion through providing an opportunity to bring the Irish language community together; and the family and friends of the children and young

people who are involved in the festival in order to enjoy the work that has been done to prepare for the drama festival throughout the year. The benefits here are that children, young people and the wider community are exposed to the arts through participation in the drama, which improves self-esteem and self-confidence. The opportunity to compete in competition with other children and young people increases teamwork skills and encourages the participants to take on new responsibilities. Can you demonstrate this? These benefits can be demonstrated by the number of participants and audience members; feedback from the participants and audience; an evaluation form sent to the teachers or group leaders of all groups which take part. Is any harm or possibility of harm outweighed by the benefit? There is no harm arising from this purpose which could outweigh the benefit. Who is the benefit for? The charity’s beneficiaries are: • children and young people in the greater Newry area who are either learning the Irish language or who already speak it • Irish speakers and those interested in the Irish language who will benefit from watching and enjoying the dramas as part of the Féile • Teachers and other youth leaders who will receive advice and guidance on taking part in the Féile Is there any private benefit? Is it incidental or necessary? There is no private benefit associated with this purpose.
