Public benefits

Develop a cross community approach to promote the benefit of the inhabitants of Areema and its environs... The direct benefits which flow from this purpose include increased information provided to residents through interagency working, and passed on to the local community via a newsletter, through events and through notices in the community flat.

Isolation has also been reduced, particularly through senior citizen specific events. Associating the statutory authorities, voluntary organisations and inhabitants in a common effort to advance education. The direct benefits which flow from this purpose include residents using this opportunity to develop their skills and experience through training courses. For example, the Association obtained funding through Council to deliver workshops to senior citizens in an “Introduction to IT”, which has enabled participants to become more aware & familiar with IT. This has reduced anxiety and built confidence through an increased understanding of computers. Other training courses have also been delivered focusing on health, which has furthered education and understanding of a variety of issues such as physical & mental health, as well as alcohol & substance abuse. To provide facilities in the interests of social welfare for recreation or other leisure-time occupation, with the object of improving the conditions of life for the said inhabitants. The direct benefits which flow from this purpose include heightened community support, reduced anxiety, and a more engaged community. For example, the Association carries out an annual estate inspection with various agencies in order to identify any issues within the estate which need addressed, such as street lighting, roads & paths, litter, dog fouling etc. Agencies are actioned to respond accordingly to these issues. The Association also holds interagency meetings three times a year which are also used to address issues within the estate, this includes working with the PSNI to address issues of ASB, reducing anxiety of local residents. Throughout the year activities and events take place for all ages which develop friendships, reduce isolation, and often provide opportunities to residents which otherwise would be unavailable, for example training. To establish or to secure the establishment of a Community Centre (hereinafter called "the Centre") and to maintain and manage or to co-operate with any local statutory authority in maintenance and management of such a centre for activities promoted by the Association and its constituent bodies in furtherance of the above objects. The direct benefits which flow from this include an accessible venue within the local community which is open to all. The community flat provides a drop in service, which provides residents with the opportunity to seek advice and support from the Association. The Association provides a link to statutory authorities and voluntary organisations through inter-agency meetings, and also provides signposting as required. Within the community flat a notice board also provides information on upcoming events and more information regarding housing and health etc. An IT suite is also available for local residents to use. None of the purposes listed give rise to any harm and all of the beneficiaries live within the area of benefit. Private benefits arise from some of our purposes such as improving the skills and experiences of charity trustees through involvement in organising and delivering the various projects and activities. Some trustees have also taken part in activities and events for which they have not been the targeted beneficiaries. For example, acting in the capacity of key holder of the community flat, they have to be present to open and close the building, and have therefore staying to take part. Such private benefits have been incidental and necessary to ensure the benefits were passed on to beneficiaries.
