Benefit One The benefit which flows from consulting with citizens and working in partnership with a range of local, statutory, community and voluntary agencies is that Ballysally Advisory Committee is ensuring community needs are being met through a process of listening and consultation. This approach also ensures that the services provided are at

a grass roots level. The added value of working in partnership minimises duplication of services, programmes and projects ensuring quality, transparency and an integral approach to service provision. There is no risk or harm to this benefit. Benefit Two The benefit from providing a community development approach to education, training and support ensures that the process is underpinned by a set of values of equality, anti-discrimination, social justice, collective action, community empowerment and working and learning together. It is inclusive of all the community encouraging positive harmonious relationships, thus impacting on a range of community and individual skills, well-being, self-confidence and encouraging life-long learning. There is no risk or harm to this benefit. Benefit Three By providing high quality play, learning and community meeting environments, people of all ages and abilities are benefitting through improvements in learning, education and socialisation. This is evident from community feedback and reports from the people attending events, courses, programmes and projects. There is no risk or harm to this benefit. Benefit Four The benefit of providing community events, projects and programmes for the people of Ballysally, Coleraine and Triangle area is the promotion of community cohesion, impacting on positive community relations. As Northern Ireland moves on from our past history of the troubles and we have new citizens to meet and welcome, any initiative which supports harmonious relationships in our area of benefit has a positive impact on the health and well-being of local residents and enables everyone to work together without risk or stress. There is no risk or harm to this benefit and all activities are well-planned and appropriate to the needs of the local community and other stakeholders. The private benefit that occurs as a result of delivering the public benefits outlined above is that, from time to time, we may have to pay, for example, a training officer or facilitator; or use resources to buy materials from public suppliers or provide subsistence or travel to our volunteers and private gain will occur, however without using funding or resources in this way we could not attain the intended public benefit of our objectives. No conflict of interest arises through this process as we ensure that our trustees work to a high level of good practice in terms of finance, recruitment and procurement processes and always declare an interest where appropriate. All procurement is at an appropriate level of recompense and we have specific procedures in place for everyone to follow. Without purchasing some services we could not deliver on the public benefits outlined above but our trustees have a high level of awareness of the issues that can arise and always act according to the high standards expected of their position. Another private benefit that arises from the service we provide is that from time to time we will provide training to mainly volunteers (though sometimes staff or trainers) and local residents and this training provides essentially transferable skills which could lead to employment opportunities for a volunteer, however without accessing training, the organization could not deliver it public benefit to the general public. Volunteers often work with organisations such as ourselves to gain experience which will further their future career opportunities but they do not receive any special treatment and they and their families avail of the same service as someone attending who is not a volunteer.

Charitable purposes

The charity’s purposes (‘the purposes’) are: A. To promote or assist in promoting community development by providing education, training and support for the benefit of the community to increase abilities, well-being, skills and self-confidence of such communities in the area of benefit. B. To promote the physical, intellectual, emotional, personal and social development of people of all ages and abilities in the area of benefit including children, families, carers, youth, new citizens, those suffering disability and the elderly who are experiencing social or economic deprivation by providing a range of appropriate health and well-being, social, recreational, community development, community safety and advice centred activities C. To promote engagement between the citizens of the area of benefit on a cross-community and inter-generational basis as appropriate to create social cohesion and positive relationships between people and groups in the area of benefit.
