Public benefits

Our main aims and objectives are (a) to provide an educational resource for the Cullybackey community (b) to promote and preserve the heritage of local people (c) to promote cultural confidence and civic pride, bolster morale of the community and harness the abilities of Cullybackey people (d) to facilitate the examination, exploration and

appreciation by all, of history, heritage and culture in an open and positive manner to encourage mutual understanding The benefits which flow are the same for all our purposes and include the provision and maintenance of our premises at 7 Fenagh Road Cullybackey as well as the arrangement and management of events in those premises. These benefits have been and will be demonstrated through the good state of repair of the facilities and the continued use of the premises by patrons. In addition, through attendance at events and positive feedback from patrons. We have not identified any harm flowing from this purpose. The charity’s beneficiaries are the general public of the Cullybackey and wider area. We are not aware of any incidental or necessary private benefit flowing from this purpose. In 2004, the Society leased the facilities from the Trustees of Dunnygarron Orange Lodge for a period of 20 years. This presented an opportunity to initiate a long-term project to increase the community space which could be used by the people of Cullybackey and further afield. Since leasing the building the Society has embarked on a programme of renovation and re-furbishment, the first two phases of which have resulted in much-improved kitchen facilities, toilet facilities and main hall area which has resulted in a modern, safe, energy-efficient community resource. In the recent past, the facilities have been used to host historical talks and musical events. These have been arranged by the Society and have provided the community with the opportunity to express and become more aware of their heritage. On the musical theme, the facilities are used on a weekly basis by Cullybackey Fife and Drumming Club for musical tuition. Religious organisations have used the building to hold outreach missions. This has promoted faith-based education and moral improvement for the community in general but particularly for those attending. The facilities are currently being used by a pre-school playgroup which has an enrolment of 30 children of pre-school age. This helps the pre-school leaders and supervisors to reassure parents that their children have optimum conditions in which to engage in their pre-school learning activities. As an indirect result of providing this facility, parents are able to pursue their careers in the knowledge that their children are being cared for in safe and comfortable surroundings. The organisation of events in safe, comfortable surroundings has a positive effect on the learning experience of participants and also enables training providers to more easily communicate their messages.
