Public benefits
The Straid Cultural Heritage and Historical Group (henceforth referred to as the ‘Group’) is established for charitable purposes only, to advance education through the promotion, encouragement, development and dissemination of knowledge of history in the borough of Newtownabbey generally and particularly that of historic Straid village and its
hinterland. The direct benefits which flow from this purpose are: - Increased awareness and better education on local history, using acknowledged experts from a wide variety of backgrounds and publications. - Access to historic buildings and places during outings and to experts in their chosen field of history. - These benefits are evidenced by positive feedback from members which informs our choices for invited speakers and outings to places of local historical interest. - The beneficiaries of the Group are primarily, but not exclusively, the residents of Straid and surrounding area and other interested parties who wish to learn about their local history. There is no private benefit flowing from our purposes. - We also encourage children to learn their local history from an early age thus supporting and advancing their understanding and how history has affected their present and future
