Public benefits

The public benefit of facilitating the development of the Y Club to provide a safe place for young people including people with learning disability and physical disability provides challenging volunteer opportunities for members of our committee and other charitable organisations. The public benefit that flows from the purpose of the personal

development of young people so that they achieve their full potential is the engagement of church, community and business groups who the Y club can facilitate to work together for a common cause. This can be demonstrated by the church and other groups using the premises. Business provides employment for children with learning difficulties trained in the Y Club. The local SERC College and students benefit from facilities as does the adjacent primary school. The beneficiaries are local churches, the community and other charities. The purpose does not give rise to any harm. The private benefit if any arising by involving business people is necessary in advancing the purpose with regard to work experience for young people with learning difficulty. Since its inception members of the Y Club have gone on to be very respected members of society as Doctors, Ministers of Religion, Schoolteachers and many other professions and continue to speak fondly of their experience as young people of the Y Club. Our Chairman the late Harold Patterson JP MBE who passed away in February this year (2015) was awarded the MBE for services to the Y Club.
