Public benefits
Broadly stated, the organisation’s Objects can be distilled to one overarching Purpose; To address the educational, economic, environmental, cultural and social needs of the Feeny area. The organisation aims to achieve this by: 1. Advancing education and training 2. Relieving those in need by reason of youth, age, ill-health, disability or other
disadvantage 3. Promoting village renewal 4. Providing facilities in the interests of social welfare for recreation with the object of enhancing the social ambience and recreational well-being of the local area’s inhabitants The trustees believe that the purposes of the organisation satisfies both elements of the public benefit requirement. 1. Advancing education and training The direct benefits which flow from this purpose include the development of the skill base of the community which should lead to improved employability for those undertaking training courses. Furthermore, the community will directly benefit from access to training courses which are not readily accessible in this rural setting. The benefits will be evidenced from demand for and attendance at these courses, feedback from resident groups and the local community itself. There is no evident harm from this purpose. There would be a private benefit should a trustee avail of any of the courses on offer. This would allow them to develop skills which may be used elsewhere. However, such benefits are incidental to achieving this purpose. 2. Relieving those in need by reason of youth, age, ill-health, disability or other disadvantage The direct benefits which flow from this purpose include the improvement of quality of life for those in need. The benefits will be evidenced from attendance at activities such as our Outreach Advice Centre and Older Peoples Group coupled with feedback from participants in those activities and from the local community. There is no evident harm from this purpose. There are no private benefits arising from this purpose. 3. Promoting village renewal The direct benefits which flow from this purpose include increased visitors to the area, improved facilities and improvement in the quality of life for inhabitants. These benefits will be evidenced by feedback from the local community, local businesses, visitors to the area and attendance at our events such as Farmers Market. There is no evident harm from this purpose. Private benefits to trustees may occur should the value of property in the area rise as a result of increased tourism and improved facilities in the area. This private benefit is incidental to achieving this purpose. 4. Providing facilities in the interests of social welfare for recreation with the object of enhancing the social ambience and recreational well-being of the local area’s inhabitants The direct benefits which flow from this purpose include improved quality of life for residents, increased physical and mental health and increased visitors to the area. These benefits will be evidenced by attendance at our various events and activities aimed at promoting physical and mental health. It will also be obtained from feedback from those attendees, the local community and visitors to the area. There is no evident harm from this purpose. There would be a private benefit should a trustee avail of any of the courses on offer. They may improve their physical well-being as a result.
