Public benefits

S.T.E.P.S. was set up in March 2012 and is a user-led, community based mental health organisation which provides various services within our self help programme for those suffering from mental health issues such as panic attacks/anxiety, depression, OCD, agoraphobia etc. We are a team of people who have come together through our own recovery and

are now guiding clients to a more positive, hopeful and better future. Our organisation provides many benefits for the good of each individual and the community which hope to advance education, relieve sickness and promote the benefit of people who are experiencing mental illness/symptoms. The main aims of our organisation are to enable and empower each individual to de-sensitise, identify and make informed choices regarding their future and necessary lifestyle changes. Our project impacts on the well being of our community socially, economically and educationally. The benefits we hope to achieve from our organisation include: Our programme is a self help programme which enables and encourages clients to help them to help themselves to recovery. Each individual is provided with a care plan with the appropriate services in place which are tailored to their specific needs by provision of education, support and therapeutic interventions. We provide the knowledge, learning skills, and tools to unlock and enhance their capability to empower him/herself to a more positive, stress-free, and healthier life. Not only will each client benefit from the various services, but also their family, their carers and the community as we also provide facilities in the interest of improving the conditions of life of such persons. Our services will also benefit the public at large as we are promoting a better understanding of mental illness and discouraging prejudice against those experiencing mental health issues. Another benefit of our organisation is that we liaise with other organisations who provide opportunities which are beneficial to the individual, their family, carers etc eg access to employment, work related training, education, self enhancement courses, victim support etc. We hope to benefit the advancement of research into mental illness and associated mental health issues, by providing support for research by facilitating the active consultation and involvement of those with primary and secondary experience of mental illness in such research. The success of our programme is demonstrated by the continual referral system we have in place and we intend to chart our success in the future using feedback from successful clients, their family/carers etc, testimonies from past and present clients, statistics accumulated by attendance records etc. Our purposes are all beneficial and do not harm in any way as this is a self help programme – we do not direct we only encourage and support each individual.
