Public benefits
North Belfast Development Trust (NBDT) works with community groups, public agencies, central and local government to tackle social and economic deprivation and areas of disadvantage by regenerating, redeveloping and revitalising places in North Belfast that have been blighted by urban decline - economic failure and the impact of the troubles, such
as Peacewall/Interface areas. NBDT will promote spatial planning and urban regeneration to bring unused/ spaces and buildings back to places of shared use for the public benefit of the citizens of North Belfast and wider afield. NBDT want to improve the physical environment of North Belfast, where practical, and reduce multiple deprivation and social exclusion through the establishment of sustainable buildings and improvements to the physical infrastructure that can host and accommodate activities and services that deliver increased public benefit. (1) "promote urban regeneration and redevelopment and revitalisation of North Belfast and its environs" which will include the restoration of land or buildings neglected by industrial urban decline or abandoned due to segregation or the Troubles. NBDT will look to establish sustainable regeneration of such buildings or locations to promote regeneration of the physical environment and promote economic investment. (2) "To develop strategies for land management and resource use" - NBDT will be working in areas with high levels of community division and segregated communities and the NBDT will establish buildings and facilities that are designed as shared, safe spaces where people can promote good relations between people of different communities and backgrounds, where shared services and resources can be accessed equally and by all sections of society and where diversity is respected. (3) "NBDT will advance community development (regeneration) by" - (i) promoting trade and industry for the benefit of the general public; by establishing facilities that can provide services to upskill and prepare people to compete for jobs (ii) supporting and developing the work of voluntary and community groups in charitable activity which seeks to relieve poverty - advance education and improve the quality of life of the inhabitants of North Belfast by providing accommodation, facilities and support services and recreational facilities and other venues for the public. (4) "To create training and employment opportunities by the provision of workspace office space, buildings and/or land for use on favourable terms". In so doing NBDT will porovide public benefit for the citizens of North Belfast by increasing access to education and skills provision and services that are connected to a ore vibrant labour market. (5) "To maintain, improve and provide public amenities" (in North Belfast) to promote the sustainable use of local spaces and buildings in the north of the city by all sections of the community resulting in more shared spaces and the strengthening of good community relations locally and with Belfast more generally. (6) "To enhance the improvement of the built environment and the maintenance and conservation of heritage buildings" to ensure that local communities and the general public benefit from the preservation of these buildings and the role they play in sustaining the character of the areas physical infrastructure, while acknowledging their past and future potential contribution to sustaining the fabric and socio-economic infrastructure of north Belfast. (7) "To promote, establish, operate and/or support other schemes and projects of a similar charitable nature". NBDT will work closely with other charitable organisations of a similar nature to establish and operate facilities and host projects that can enhance skills -educational - health and well-being and economic prosperity of people experiencing multiple deprivation and social exclusion living in north Belfast communities.

North Belfast Development Trust (NBDT) seeks to promote the sustainable physical regeneration of north Belfast by reducing dereliction and urban blight on the physical fabric and landscape of north Belfast. NBDT wants to make improvements to the built environment and to spatial planning locally to create shared and vibrant buildings and public
spaces that host activities and services that are used by and provide public benefit for the people of north Belfast. Additionally, NBDT wants to promote investment in the built environment in an area that has witnessed decades of under-investment in its physical and economic infrastructures by both Government and the private sector. The vision of the NBDT is to reverse this trend by regenerating and bringing sustainable growth to north Belfast which targets deprivation by promoting public benefit.

Charitable purposes
The Company’s objects (“Objects”) are specifically restricted to the following: (a) To relieve poverty, promote urban regeneration and community development and to promote the benefit of the inhabitants of North Belfast and its environs (hereinafter called the area of benefit) by any means which is exclusively charitable under the law of Northern Ireland, and in particular: (i) to promote economic and physical regeneration within the area of benefit, tackle urban decay and dereliction and advance environmental improvement; (ii) to maintain, improve or provide public amenities and provide or assist in the provision of recreational and educational facilities, for the benefit of the public at large, or specifically for those who by reasons of their youth, age, infirmity or disablement, poverty or social and economic circumstances, have need of such facilities; (iii) to relieve the unemployed and other economically inactive and disadvantaged persons within the area of benefit, by the provision of facilities and services which create employment and training opportunities; (iv) to promote the effectiveness and efficiency of local voluntary sector organisations by the provision of accommodation, and other facilities and services. (v) to undertake such other charitable purpose, or purposes for the benefit of the inhabitants of the area of benefit that is exclusively charitable under the law of Northern Ireland, as the directors shall from time to time decide.
