Public benefits

Holywood Conservation Group (HCG) enhances the public benefit by promoting, preserving and protecting old buildings of historic and/or architectural merit and, with relation to proposed new developments, by promoting high standards of building and architecture (with particular reference to designated conservation areas) and the preservation of

existing open spaces with particular reference to density of development and tree protection. HCG thereby preserves and promotes the conservation of the heritage, and improvement of the environment of Holywood, in terms of quality and density of building and surrounding spaces for the benefit and well being of its inhabitants. Furthermore the heritage of Holywood and its important buildings both within and adjacent to the conservation area are preserved for the benefit and enjoyment of future generations. The overall environment of Holywood is preserved for the benefit of the present and future generations by the company's scrutiny of proposed developments in light of the existing conservation area to ensure its preservation and with a view to its extension. The company also scrutinises the density and extent of proposed developments with a view to the preservation of open spaces and trees for the present and future of the citizens of Holywood. The purposes of the HCG and their execution have resulted in a pleasant and architecturally meritorious environment in Holywood and in particular in the preservation of designated conservation area. Developments likely to be detrimental to the town of Holywood and in particular to the conservation area have been scrutinised and effectively opposed by HCG which thereby carries out its purposes. The conservation area is thereby preserved and enhanced as has the general environment of Holywood. Anyone can access Holywood including the conservation area.
