Public benefits
Purpose 1: Improved relationships between home and school The benefit which flows from this purpose includes funding for additional resources for the school and links built with the local community. This is demonstrated through having an active PTA that works in partnership with the school and engages parental support. This purpose does not lead to
harm. The benefit is for children at Nendrum College. Charity trustees (elected PTA committee members) are usually also teaching staff or parents at the school which their children attend and hence gain benefit in the same way as all other beneficiaries. This benefit is incidental and necessary to ensure the benefit is provided to all beneficiaries. Purpose 2: Advancing the education of pupils in the school The benefit which flows from this purpose includes increased educational progress and attainment of pupils in the school and links built with the local community. This is demonstrated through pupils having access to resources, events, activities and links with the local community which are not available through direct school funding. This purpose does not lead to harm.
What your organisation does
Our PTA membership includes all parents/careers of children currently enrolled in the school and all staff currently employed in the school. A group of parents meet regularly to plan and organise social and fundraising events, which are available to all pupils, their family and friends and the wider community. Such events include: family table
quiz, pupil valentines disco, used clothes collection, ice cream and hot dog sales at break time in school and a dingbat quiz. Members of the PTA also assist with and provide refreshments at the school’s carol service, shows and productions, the school open evening for prospective pupils and other school events. In close consultation with the Principal and teaching staff, we agree to fund a range of items and activities that directly benefit the school and its pupils. Last year we purchased prizes for the school’s pupil of the month and reading schemes, additional equipment for the Home Economics department, resources to help support pupils with special educational needs, clocks and wall art for pupil social areas, text bundles for the parental text messaging service and funded a variety of workshops and transport for educational visits. Overall, we are a fundraising organisation but an important part of our role is also strengthening and encouraging the home/school relationship, where teachers and parents work together to support and enhance the education of our children.
