Public benefits
Purpose 1 If within 2 years of leaving the school, a past pupil seeks help to further his education, whether academic or voluntary education, then any application by that past pupil would be considered by the Trustees. It is envisaged that the past pupil, if supported by the Trust, would have enhanced their opportunity to become better qualified or
trained in their career, thus becoming a positive contributor to society. By helping a past pupil to defray the costs of a third level education or assistance towards the cost of night classes or the purchase of tools for an apprenticeship, are the ways that the Trust can help. No private benefit arises, i.e. only persons that are past pupils, within two years of leaving the school, may apply to the Trust. Purpose 2 Current pupils of the school may seek help, in addition to that provided by the education authorities, if the Trustees believe that such help would enhance their education prospects or vocational prospects. Examples of proposed help would be, paying for extra music lessons for a talented pupil, providing a pupil with a musical instrument rather than that pupil having to share an instrument, sending a pupil to an art exhibition or young scientist project. Encouragement in the teenage years will give pupils an extra bit of drive to succeed. All pupils at the school can apply for assistance, so no private benefit arises to a selected few individuals. These benefits are demonstrated through feedback from the beneficiaries and their parents. Also by observing the practical outworkings of encouraging young people to take pride in themselves, work hard, reach their full potential and make a contribution to society.
What your organisation does
Current pupils can apply for a bursary towards extra courses if they show a talent for the arts, science, humanities, etc. Past pupils can seek a bursary towards meeting university expenses or if they decide upon a trade then towards the purchase of tools, manuals or attendance at night classes. Bursaries are small because the Trust does not have
large resources, normally £250 per successful applicant per year.
