Public benefits
The provision of play based education for the children under statutory school age, in the Newtownbutler area, and its surrounding townlands. The direct benefits which flow form the purposes include: improved learning outcomes for the children attending, plus opportunities for social integration and emotional well being. Other benefits include
strong connections with parents/carers of the children attending the playschool, and links to the wider community activity in the area. These benefits can be demonstrated by feedback received from parents, detailed observations carried out by our staff daily, and by the inspections process carried out by the Education and training Inspectorate, on behalf of WHSCT. The purpose of this playgroup is beneficial to both the children and their families and there is no possibility of harm. There are no private benefits to persons connected with the playgroup. In the playgroup’s case, the salaries that are paid to employee’s are clearly necessary in order to carryout the purposes. Any training provided to committee members eg in financial procedures, committee skills, child protection, first aid etc is necessary to ensure high standards of governance for the playgroup and any benefit incurred are incidental.
What your organisation does
We are a cross community Playgroup in a rural disadvantaged border area of Co Fermanagh where we provide the children of the local community with a happy, safe, child centred caring educational environment that is stimulating and challenging. Our doors are open to children from all communities regardless of their abilities or religious/cultural
backgrounds. We are a registered charity and a member of the Early Years Organisation for young children and work along with Social Services and Education Authority-Western Region. We are based in a purpose built playgroup building in Newtownbutler Village which provides an excellent low cost education service to the local community. We open 5 days per week, offering 2 sessions daily from 9.15am - 11.45am and 12.15pm - 2.45pm. We currently have 50 families using our facilities which include one parent families, low income families and families that have been hit by unemployment in recent years. We are the only playgroup in this area, children would have to travel 12 miles round trip to find the nearest playgroup. For this age there is nothing else for them to do. Our playgroup offers all children a wide variety of activities appropriate to their stage of development.
