Hampsey Traditional Music school is open to all children aged 6yrs upwards at an affordable cost due to children being taught in group lessons.Tutor are paid nominal expenses therefore keeping costs down. School is run by volunteers.There is no conflict of interest in any of these. The school is recognised as having a harmonious and friendly

environment . Child protection policy is in place and all volunteers and tutors are Access checked. Instruments currently taught are fiddle,bodhran,tin whistle and guitar Music school is open to all regardless of religious or political beliefs . Volunteers and tutors are from various communities. Classes are held in Garvagh Community Building which is recognised as a neutral venue. All schools in the area are advised at beginning of term re classes,social media is also used .This means any child can learn a form of instrument which may not be part of their tradition helping to break down social barriers . A collection of instruments are available for hire ; fiddle,guitar,bodhran, a nominal fee of £5 per year, tin whistles are available for purchase.In exceptional circumstances the fee is waived thus helping to alleviate poverty. N.I. moves on from the past history of the troubles and Traditional Music is now accepted in most communities as part of our heritage.. Tutors teaching introduce other forms of music in an informal way encouraging children " to look outside the box".Concerts are held annually and are open to the public thus encouraging parents and children .A spin off is parents leaving off and collecting children have the opportunity to mix and make new friendships. HSTM and Harp school meet once per year for a joint concert.

Charitable purposes

To teach Traditional Music to children aged six years and upwards. Operate a policy of equality, religious and political impartiality, in all aspects of the school activities. Encourage mutual understanding by cross community contact of young people through the medium of traditional music. Maintain a collectionof instruments which may be hired out or lent, by the consent of the committee, to appropriate pupils. To promote in other associated ways and at times deemed appropriate by the committee, cross community understanding and co-operation.
