Public benefits
The objects according to our constitution are to advance education, to promote the arts and to promote the benefit of the people of the causeway coast and glens by means of education and promotion of the opportunities which can be accessed in the performing arts to adults and young people. We are of an organisation which operates to a
recognised professional standard to inspire our volunteers to become involved to increase their skills. Working with professionals allows skills to be transferred and provides role models for our amateur volunteer performers. Other benefits include the training we provide to our volunteers. Our volunteers do access training in health and safety, child protection, performance skills, costume making, stage craft, scenery production, make up and costume design and although these are transferable skills they are necessary for the success of our organisation and its work as they provide an incentive for volunteers to become involved and contribute to their personal and professional development. Being able to perform as part of a team enables confidence to be built and self-esteem to be raised and can contribute to an individual’s progression into professional stage work, however the vast majority of our volunteers will reap benefits only in terms of the satisfaction of participation and the associated raise in personal confidence. The direct benefits which flow from our purposes includes: increased engagement and promotion of public understanding, accessibility, appreciation and enjoyment of arts, encouragement and development of local volunteers of all ages to develop new skills, talent and creativity and encourage employment; increased engagement and education of children and young people to access, appreciate and enjoy arts and culture laying the foundation for future creativity. The benefit that flows from the purpose is the promotion of enjoyment, better understanding and general advancement of the arts and sciences, in particular the art and science of music, dance, movement and theatre, for the benefit of the general public in northern Ireland through performing, through exposure to and participation in, as audience member or physical participant, the art and science of music, dance, movement and theatre. These benefits are evidenced through regular internal and external qualitative assessment; regular collation of quantitative data on charitable activities, audiences, and participation; photo and video documentation; regular reporting of charitable activities and financial performance in annual reports, audited annual accounts, and reports to grant funders. A private benefit to trustees may arise from our programme of ongoing training in good governance, finance etc. Through this training trustees gain skills and experience which are transferable to other settings. These skills are incidental and necessary to ensure the benefit is provided to the beneficiaries. The possibility of harm, for example by physical injury incurred by participation in musical performance, dance, movement and theatre, is outweighed by the benefit and significantly reduced by the policies and procedures in place to address such risks, for example safeguarding and child protection policy, health and safety policy, code of conduct for staff and volunteers. The charity's beneficiaries are the general public in the Causeway Coast and Glens Council Area.
What your organisation does
Our organisation provides entertainment which organises one production per year. The production will generally be for eleven performances and the concert for two nights. Our volunteers meet all year to decide on the production and content of the production and we then develop an action plan to bring these to the public stage. We also work with a
choreographer who is also a volunteer to develop the bigger performance numbers. There is a huge amount of skills development for our volunteers both onstage and backstage and we also have to liaise with venues and our local authority to ensure the shows are staged in the appropriate venue for the general public to be safe.
