Public benefits
In accordance with purpose 1: a direct benefit which flows from this is the delivery of an after school home-work club which improves numeracy and literacy skills of Traveller children. The beneficiaries of this service are Traveller children aged four to eleven attending local primary schools. This benefit is demonstrated through on-going
attendance levels at the home-work club. We source local opportunities for essential skills and personal development programmes. The public benefit which flows from this is that Travellers have the opportunity to address skills barriers and confidence issues which may prevent them from accessing employment or further education opportunities. The main beneficiaries are young Traveller adults and Traveller adults. This public benefit is demonstrated through increased engagement levels with local colleges of further education or community services. In accordance with purpose 2: An Tearmann acts as mediatory body. We provide a free drop in and advocacy service. The direct benefit which flows from this is that Travellers are encouraged to liaise with a variety of statutory and community bodies in regards to disputes or the advancement of their human rights. This benefit is demonstrated through increased Traveller representation in public meetings and the promotion of the Antearmann organisation to other public/community bodies, we also monitor engagement levels with the advisory service. The main beneficiaries are local Travellers of all ages. In accordance with purpose 3: the direct benefit which flows this is the promotion of community and recreation programmes to local Travellers. We promote volunteering opportunities to Travellers which encourages community development amongst the Traveller community. This benefit is demonstrated through on-going monitoring of engagement levels within the Traveller community and the numbers of Traveller representatives volunteering on behalf of An Tearmann. We make Travellers aware of and signpost them to services they can avail of, the direct benefit which flows from this increased access is to and knowledge about services which address individual needs. This public benefit is demonstrated via increasing numbers of referrals to relevant services. The main beneficiaries are Traveller families and individuals from the Traveller community in the local area.
