Public benefits

Purpose 1) Advancement of citizenship and community development. The direct benefits include the improvement of social and community infrastructure provision of social opportunities ie. Festival week, encouraging people to become active in a voluntary capacity and increase community participation. Purpose 2) Advancement of education. The direct

benefits include the education of people to promote rural regeneration through provision of training in partnership with agencies, especially for the youth to encourage job creation and a range of workshops to develop participant’s knowledge, skills and self-confidence, and possibility of further education, thus improve their quality of life. Purpose 3) Relieve those in need. The direct benefits include to encourage, build and develop good community relations in the area through provision of cross community social events and activities for those who have need of such assistance as a result of their youth, age, disability, infirmity or social and economic circumstances to improve education and wellbeing. Purpose 4) Advance health. The direct benefits include raising awareness and improvement of health and wellbeing to the people living in Glenavy area. To provide recreation and community facilities in the interest in social welfare, including trips for older people, youth activities and summer schemes. Empowering people to take action on the multi determinants of health, social, economic, environment and physical including mental health with the object of improving the conditions of life for the said inhabitants. Purpose 5) The advancement of environmental protection or improvement. The benefit that flows from this is to protect and preserve the environment, cultural, architectural and historical heritage of the area of benefit and general public through provision of cultural and history exhibitions and environmental clean ups for the community to take pride in the area they live. Any other charitable purpose – promote such other charitable purposes as may from time to time be determined. The above purposes will not lead to any harm. A private benefit to trustees may arise from our programme of training/activities. Trustees may gain skills which are transferable to other settings. These benefits are incidental and necessary to ensure the benefit is provided to our beneficiaries. These benefits are demonstrated through numbers using our facilities/activities and participant feedback.

What your organisation does

The Glenavy Development Partnership is a cross-community organisation of people from the village of Glenavy and the surrounding countryside who have come together to improve their locality. Our motto is "Your community working together". We provide practical support, guidance, information signposting and networking opportunities for local

residents. We would provide a range of socialising activities throughout the year for all age groups to target social inclusion.

Charitable purposes

a) To promote and enhance the welfare of all residents in the GLENAVY WARD, DISTRICT OF LISBURN ELECTORAL AREA without distinction of age, gender, sexuality, nationality, ethnic identity, disability, political or religious opinion, by associating the statutory authorities, voluntary organisations and the inhabitants in a common effort to advance education. b) To promote rural regeneration for the benefit of the inhabitants of Glenavy Ward and to search out and encourage job creation in tourism and leisure pursuits. c) To encourage, build and develop good community relations in the area. d) To provide facilities in the interest of social welfare for recreation or other leisure-time occupation, with the object of improving the conditions of life for the said inhabitants. e) To protect and preserve the environmental, cultural, architectural and historical heritage of the area of benefit of the general public, to negotiate on behalf of and in the best intent and wellbeing of the community.
