Public benefits

Milltown Area Community Association meets the public benefit requirement by providing a wide range of activities which in turn provides a benefit to the local Milltown community. Members who avail of services and activities through the club benefit socially and mentally through engagement, reducing social isolation and increasing confidence in the

Milltown area. Members experience a direct benefit through this engagement at activities, social outings etc. which results in the creation of new relationships and friendships, positive thinking and sharing of experiences. The local Milltown Area community indirectly benefit as a result of the production of a newsletter distributed throughout the local area. Milltown Area Community Association also attend Housing Community Network and Inter Agency meetings were they bring forward issues happening within the local area eg environmental issues such as paving, water ponding etc., anti social behaviour etc. The relevant agencies then take action and resolve the problems. Milltown Area Community Association work for the wider benefit of the community and surrounding area – the Club increases good mental health through the engagement of young and old people, restoring community confidence and reducing social isolation. The Association also increases the understanding of young and old people and increases awareness of the need of engagement through intergenerational activities Milltown Area Community Association promotes equality of opportunity between people as per the Northern Ireland Act 1998 section 75 based on the following nine characteristics; 1. Age 2. Having or not having a disability 3. Gender 4. Marital status 5. Religion 6. Political opinion 7. Ethnicity 8. Sexual orientation 9. Having or not having dependants There is no private benefit or harm.

What your organisation does

Milltown Area Community Association was set up to improve quality of life of residents in the Milltown area. The organisation does the following; Provides a wide range of social activities for the residents, young and old such as Summer Schemes, Christmas parties, Senior citizens dinners, shopping trips, history trips and so on. Attend Housing

Community Network meetings with the Housing Executive and Inter Agency meetings with Supporting Communities NI The organisation carries out annual estate walkabouts - to identify issues within the local area and feed back to the relevant agencies who will deal/solve the issue. Agencies the organisation work with are NIHE, Transport NI, PSNI, local Council, PCSP and so on. The organisation has monthly committee meetings in Gardiners Hall and holds their Annual General Meeting once a year The organisation also applies for funding - organise and facilitate all funding events - manage their account in terms of recording all income and expenditure.

The Association is established to relieve poverty, sickness and the aged and to promote the benefit of the inhabitants of the Milltown Area and district area of Dungannon and its environs (hereinafter described as “the area of benefit”) without distinction of age, gender, race, political, religious or other opinion, by associating the statutory authorities, voluntary organisations and inhabitants in a common effort to advance education, and to provide facilities in the interests of social welfare for recreation or other leisure-time occupation, with the object of improving the conditions of life for the said inhabitants.
