Public benefits

Kilkeel Parish Bridge Association Limited believes that our objectives satisfy both elements of the public benefit requirement. The direct benefits which flow from purpose one include the provision of a wide range of innovative activities based principally in our youth centre “JIMS” and occasionally in other venues within the local community where

everyone particularly young people and children can access educational, training and social development opportunities. Accredited OCR and OCN qualification, participation in non accredited courses and activities undertaken promote learning, life skills, healthy life styles, self confidence and self esteem. New skills gained aid participants with their formal education increasing their opportunities to reach their full potential in adult life, enhance future employment opportunities and create young volunteers with the necessary abilities to engage in leadership roles within the centre and local community. These benefits are demonstrated through the numbers obtaining certificates, numbers obtaining volunteering awards, programme evaluations, external assessments, feedback from parents and feedback from local schools. The direct benefits which flow from purpose two includes the provision of a wide range of cross community integrated activities which focus on the needs of the local community in a neutral venue with a welcoming, caring, safe and comfortable environment which are enjoyable to all. Our centre provides a platform which is instrumental in furthering respect, tolerance, acceptance and understanding of others through a positive approach to diversity and difference. These benefits are demonstrated in a reduction in anti-social behaviour, a reduction in prejudices, better cross community relations, programme evaluations, feedback from the local community and government statistics. The benefits which flow from purpose three include the provision of a modern, accessible, multi-purpose building which is recognised as a valuable cross community facility. The association operates the centre with an open door policy to all. Any cost to participants is kept to a minimum to ensure affordability to all. These benefits are demonstrated through the stability and increase of numbers utilizing the centre. The beneficiaries of these purposes are the children and young people aged 6 – 25 years of Kilkeel, Co. Down and the surrounding area. These purposes do not give rise to any harm. The association carries out routine risk assessments, provides appropriate staff and volunteer training and follows health and safety standards. Trustees and adult volunteers may gain private benefit as a result of training courses however this benefit is incidental and necessary to ensure the objectives of the organisation take place.
