Public benefits

The public benefits flowing from our purposes are that the Police and other statutory and voluntary agencies have the opportunity to meet together regularly. The Police benefit from being able to gauge reaction to their various activities from people who actually live within the community. The community benefit from the fact that they have direct

contact with the local Police force. The public benefits from the fact that there are regular discussions on Community Safety, Crime Prevention and Road Safety. This has benefits for pedestrians, motorists, cyclist and motor cyclists. The community benefits because matters relating to alcohol drug and solvent abuse can be discussed in an open manner and when necessary interventions can be made through appropriate drug and alcohol advice agencies. The elderly benefit because they are represented on the liaison committee and matters relating to fear of crime against the elderly can be addressed and effectively assisted by the links made between the Cookstown CPLC and agencies such as Agewell. Young people benefit from the provision of educational interventions supported by the CPLP, the PSNI, local schools and community groups. The benefits are measured by the statistics gathered by the local PSNI regarding the levels of crime within the district. They are also measured by the numbers attending educational courses and classes, talks and discussions. There is no private benefit from any activities supported by the Cookstown Community & Police Liaison Committee.

What your organisation does

Cookstown CPLC facilitates regular meetings between the local Police and the Cookstown community which the group's membership is representative of all sections of the "area of benefit". The meetings allow for discussions on community safety, crime prevention/reduction matters, road safety issues and networking with other statutory/voluntary

organisations which share a mutual interest in the same issues to make Cookstown a safer place. In addition where issues raised result in community safety projects being identified the group will undertake same for the benefit of those whose lives or environment can be improved with the Police & other statutory bodies.
