Cumann Gaelach Leath Chathail's constitution outlines in simple language that the aim and purpose of the society is simultaniously both educational and cultural. The Society provides Irish language classes and cultural events for the Irish speaking community and those interested in learning more about the culture that is associated with the

language. These events help to enhance diversity in the community and provide a greater insight in to the cultural wealth of the district that many would otherwise be ignorant of. These services are available to anybody in the community regardless of race, gender, political, religious or ethnic background. The members of the Cumann receive no personal reward from the work of the Cumann and their voluntary contribution to the community.

Cumann Gaelach Leath Chathail organises Irish classes and social events for Irish speakers. The society has also published a number of books exploring issues around the language and carried out cross community work and promoted dialogue in order to address negative perceptions about the language.

Charitable purposes

The organisation is established to advance education in the Irish language are of Lecale and its/their environs of Co Down and in particular to: a) advance education in the Irish language and culture; b) to promote Irish traditional music in all its forms; c) to promote awareness of Irish traditional dancing, arts, poetry, folklore, history and heritage for the benefit of the public.
