Public benefits

The Association is established to advance education, relieve youth, sickness and distress and promote the benefit of the inhabitants of the Ardoyne area and its environs of North Belfast (hereinafter called the ‘area of benefit’) and in particular: Purpose a) The direct benefits which flow from this purpose include: • A place for young people

to gather in safety and become involved in indoor sporting activities i.e. pool, table tennis • Promote the benefits of taking advantage of educational opportunities • Free activities to encourage participation. These benefits can be demonstrated by: • Less young people running the streets causing problems. • Reduction in fires which young people congregate around on cold nights • Better social interaction between peers. Purpose b) The direct benefits which flow from this purpose include: • Young people are made aware of the impact anti social behaviour has on their local community • Behaviour is challenged with respect for the young people. These benefits can be demonstrated by: • Reduction in anti social behaviour in the community • Improvement in sporting skills • Numbers attending. Purpose c) The direct benefits which flow from this purpose include: • Young people excluded from other venues are accepted and treated with respect whilst unacceptable behaviour is challenged and acceptable behaviour is praised causing a realisation that it is better to secure a positive response than negative, thereby promoting good citizenship. These benefits can be demonstrated by: • Reduction in bullying within peer group • More involvement in group activities. Purpose d) The direct benefits which flow from this purpose include: • Promote awareness of the effects of misuse of substances • Encouragement to say no and so present a healthier mind and body. These benefits can be demonstrated by: • Numbers of young people wanting signposted to qualified organisations to help them deal with their issues Purpose e) The direct benefits which flow from this purpose include: • Promote awareness of the effects of misuse of substances • Encouragement to say no and so present a healthier mind and body. These benefits can be demonstrated by: • Numbers of young people wanting signposted to qualified organisations to help them deal with their issues Purpose f) The direct benefits which flow from this purpose include: • If just one young person is saved from becoming homeless then this will be a great success for the Drop In Centre • Having the knowledge of where to signpost a young person in need essential to their wellbeing These benefits can be demonstrated by: • Any prevention recorded • Any re-housing (either temporary or permanent) being recorded, which would show intervention was essential The beneficiaries are: • Families, young people and the community. There is no harm flowing from the purposes as the safety and wellbeing of the young person is paramount. There is no private benefit flowing from the purposes.

What your organisation does

To work with Agencies dealing with problems associated with substance and other forms of abuse and to signpost young people to appropriate support organisations where necessary. Encourage young people to take advantage of education, training or employment opportunities. Promote self esteem. Provide a support service which takes a holistic

approach to the needs of the individual.

Charitable purposes

The Association is established to advance education, relieve youth, sickness and distress and promote the benefit of the inhabitants of the Ardoyne area and its environs of North Belfast (hereinafter called the ‘area of benefit’) and in particular: a) to promote community safety and encourage measures to prevent antisocial behaviour and crime within the area of benefit; b) to work with, and provide a drop-in centre for, young people and especially (but not exclusively) young people aged 13 to 25 who have taken part in, or are at risk of taking part in, anti-social behaviour within the area of benefit; and provide interventions which encourage their personal development and good citizenship and which enable progress within education, employment and training; c) to educate young people, and especially those at risk of taking part in antisocial behavior, through their leisure-time activities so that they develop their physical, mental and spiritual capacities so they may grow to full maturity as individuals and members of society and so that their conditions of life may be improved; d) to relieve the sickness and distress of young persons affected by drug, substance and/or alcohol misuse and addiction issues and signpost young people, their families and carers to appropriate support organisations and agencies; e) to educate and raise awareness amongst the public within the area of benefit, and in particular amongst young people, their families and carers, about the dangers of the misuse of addiction to drugs and alcohol, and similar substances; f) to work to relieve the circumstances of youth people who are homeless, or at risk of becoming homeless, in association with other agencies dealing with young people affected by such issues; g) to advance any other exclusively charitable purpose for the benefit of inhabitants of the area of benefit as may, from time to time, be decided in accordance with the law of charity.
