Public benefits
The public benefit of our organisation flows from it's purposes which are the provision of educational, health and well-being and social activities for pre-school children and their carers. This benefit is provided by a committee of volunteers drawn from the local community and the carers who attend our sessions. Early years education and the
support that it provides to carers is invaluable to a child's developmental progress and health and well-being and this service can only be provided in a voluntary setting. It builds a strong community and reduces isolation amongst carers. A private benefit that arises from the service we provide is that from time to time we will provide training in areas including Child Protection and Early Years Development and these are transferable skills which could lead to employment opportunities for a volunteer, however without training the organization could not deliver it public benefit to the general public. Volunteers who are also carers do not receive any payment or special treatment and their charges avail of the same service as someone attending who is not a volunteer.
What your organisation does
We organise weekly sessions in a local church hall in term-time which are open to everyone regardless of background or circumstances. The sessions last for two to three hours and comprise of free play, singing and rhyme and the provision of refreshments. During the free play sessions which are organised with the provision of a range of age
appropriate educational toys carers have an opportunity to interact with each other and exchange information and gain support. Professional preschool support workers can disseminate information about nutrition and health and well-being to the carers and the children have the opportunity to begin to build their early learning and social skills in an informal setting. We are registered with our local authority and follow health and safety rules and child protection guidelines.
