Public benefits
The direct benefits which flow from this purpose include relief of poverty from improved access to local service providers, improved well being of local community through enhanced knowledge of local services and improved well being of local community through the provision of recreational activities. These benefits are demonstrated through
consulting with our members four times a year to ascertain how the needs of the local community have been met. We do this through evaluating ideas and comments put into the suggestion boxes and general discussion at members meetings. The purpose of our charity may lead to some duplication of services, however we will ensure that this harm is outweighed by the benefits through discussion and consultation with the local community, other community organisations and service providers. The charity’s beneficiaries are the local community of Belvoir, Bests Hill and Milltown areas. The only private benefit flowing from our purpose is that some of the volunteers or trustees may participate in training in good governance, this is incidental and is necessary to ensure the trustees/ volunteers are maintaining good practice within the group.
What your organisation does
We have three sub committees dealing with the following issues: housing needs, policing and safety matters and environment and health. The housing sub committee meets with the Northern Ireland Housing Executive bi monthly to discuss issues on housing needs within Belvoir and refer any matters arising from local residents directly to the Housing
Executive. The Policing sub committee meets with the local community police once a month to highlight safety and anti social behaviour concerns. We also have set up seven Neighbourhood watch schemes within the area. The environment and health sub committee meets monthly and discuss matters regarding the cleanliness of the estate, street lighting and other environmental issues as they arise we then forward these issues to the relevant agency. We also refer residents to the Credit Union based within Belvoir for financial assistance and advice.
