Public benefits

The purpose of the charity is to provide relief from poverty to those associated with the Parish Church of Holywood or who live in the parish of Holywood and are brought to the notice of the Vicar of Holywood Parish Church. The direct benefits which flow from the purpose are the provision of gifts, whether financial or in kind, to those in poverty

particularly at Christmas, especially to the elderly and housebound deemed to be in poverty. The provision of the money enables the recipients to purchase necessities and the gifts are often the only gift received at Christmastime. These benefits are demonstrated through the letters of appreciation that are received from the recipients and the increased social interaction that results from the personal visits to deliver the gifts. Annual lists are kept of the recipients of gifts. There is no harm arising from the purpose. The charity’s beneficiaries are those in poverty, whether financial or through social exclusion, associated with the parish church of Holywood or who have been brought to the notice of the Vicar of Holywood Parish Church who live in Holywood. Decision making is informed by the lists of pastoral visits that are made in the parish to the elderly, sick and housebound. In addition, names would be added by the Vicar and the pastoral visitors of those who are in poverty in the parish. The final decision rests with the vicar. Distribution of the gifts is made by the pastoral visitors. There is no private benefit flowing from this purpose. No Trustee receives remuneration, reward or other private benefit for carrying out their Trustee responsibility.
