Public benefits
The advancement of environmental protection /improvement, the Trust carryout regular 1.“Water sampling” and analysis along with invertebrate monitoring on various sites throughout the Six Mile catchment, this information is recorded to identify the water quality and possible background pollution and where necessary passed to the NIEA Water
Management Team for formal investigation providing valuable assistance to maintain and improve the water quality. The monitoring has identified pollution hot spots and allowed improvement’s to be made, improvements are clearly shown by the ongoing sampling results with an upward trend. This improvement in water quality impacts directly on aquatic, bird and other wild life that thrive on the river corridor .2.The Trust have worked alongside the woodland trust, planting trees and applying for protection of our existing woodlands.3. A recent project was the installation of 100+ bird boxes. The monitoring of which has shown to have a 40% uptake in nest occupation in the 1st year, this information is recorded to provide positive evidence of increased bird life.4.A further area of Trust work is monitoring and controlling of Invasive Alien Species, Giant hog weed, Japanese knot weed and Himalayan Balsam are monitored and where possible controlled spraying is carried out. All of the above projects & records are used during talks to public groups and other interested parties to educate and encourage further protection of the natural environment.5. Regular river litter clean ups take place whereby the Trust engage with the public on the ground in action. The Trust receive constant praise and approval form angling clubs, wildlife enthusiasts and general public alike and also has massive support on its Facebook Page for the “Six Mile Water Trust “

The Trust aims to educate the public , institutions, associations , voluntary organisations , local authorities and government agency's. In the understanding of rivers , river corridors / catchments including the flora and fauna , biodiversity of river catchment environmental / aquatic management and protection . This is achieved through ,
training , on the ground work, including , clean ups , invertebrate monitoring , water sampling / monitoring , tree planting , in stream restoration ,invasive alien species monitoring and removal , presentations to schools ,local authorities and government agencies.

Charitable purposes
Objectives : 1. To conserve ,protect, rehabilitate and improve the rivers, streams, watercourses and water impoundments, including the flora and fauna , of the catchments comprising the rivers of the SIX MILE WATER catchment ,including lough Neagh ,for the advancement of environmental protection or improvement for the benefit of the public . 2. To advance the education of the public . or any association , institution , voluntary organisation , company , local authority , administrative or government agency or public body or representative body in: a. The understanding of rivers , river corridors and river catchments , including their fauna , flora , biodiversity , economic or social activity , and river catchment management . b. The need for ,and benefits of , conservation , protection , rehabilitation and improvement of aquatic environments .
