Public benefits
A number of direct benefits flow from these purposes. Purpose 1: Children, young people & adults with learning disabilities gain local access to a breadth of services. Members are encouraged to develop their skills, talents and self-confidence in a stimulating, creative, community environment promoting social inclusion & equality. Purpose 2:
Beneficiaries have the opportunity to access suitably tailored, wraparound and social opportunities which challenge them, promote self-fulfilment, reduce social isolation and encourage them to reach their full potential. Purpose 3: Beneficiaries develop and secure: Increased Engagement in Learning at Work; Increased Basic Employability Skills & Qualifications; Improved Self-Confidence, Independence & Social Inclusion as a valued member of the wider community; Increased scope for progression into employment & Social Enterprise opportunities; Increased experience of team-working. Purpose 4: All beneficiaries are creatively engaged in learning new skills, gaining recognised qualifications and having meaningful experiences of work in a supported team environment. Each person may progress and access education at a pace that best suits their needs, improving their sense of purpose, involvement, health and equal rights. Each individual becomes part of a caring, learning and sharing community predicated upon a sense of mutual respect and interdependence. A culture of self-help and peer support is developed. These benefits are demonstrated through our growing beneficiary base, extending range of services and confident funders who evaluate and regularly monitor our work. Our list of funders includes The Big Lottery Fund, Comic Relief, the Northern Health and Social Care Trust (NHSCT), Children in Need, The Prince of Wales’s Charitable Foundation and DEL/European Social Fund. These benefits are demonstrated through feedback and monitoring by our funders and partners coupled with our growing active membership numbers across all ages and programmes; a council of members takes an active role in shaping our organisation. These benefits are acknowledged through the award of our annual, service level agreement with the Northern Health & Social Care Trust (NHSCT). The on-going merits of this provision are being successfully monitored on a monthly basis by the NHSCT Senior Day Opportunities Coordinator. Regular monitoring of our service provision is also carried out on a quarterly or half yearly basis with our other funders, with successful reporting sign-off being secured. We monitor each trainee’s progress against agreed targets, ‘Outcomes Star’ planner and individual plans, along with whether nationally recognised qualifications are attained. All accredited training programmes delivered through OCN / Asdan are internally and externally verified and moderated to ensure that standards are maintained. We gather and collate reports, case studies, individual and group evaluations and feedback from trainees, carers, parents and partners. All purposes are beneficial and not harmful in any way. The beneficiaries of all purposes are children, young people and adults with Learning Disabilities, Autism and Special Educational Needs aged from 6 to 65 years and their parents, carers, supporters and volunteers across the Causeway Coast and Glens Area. For all purposes, a private benefit may arise from training or personal development opportunities for our employees/trustees/directors. The necessary skills gained are transferable to many other settings. A further private benefit is that gained by a Trustee who has two sons enrolled on two accredited training courses. This Trustee applies for and is offered places in the same way as all other beneficiaries. These benefits are incidental and necessary to ensure the benefit is provided to our beneficiaries.
What your organisation does
Greenlight Gateway is a charity and social enterprise which aims to provide real and meaningful social, training and employment experiences and development opportunities for children, young people and adults with Learning Disabilities/Special Educational Needs. We create new opportunities to enable our members to develop their skills, talents and
self-confidence in a stimulating, creative community environment. We are a dynamic community owned organisation and we address an inequality in the provision of equal opportunities to a small section of often overlooked children, young people and adults. We have as our Philosophy; 'Look at ability, not disability' and this phrase is at the very heart of all that we do and undertake. We work to ensure our members have the right to access suitably tailored employment and social opportunities which will challenge them, promote self-fulfilment and reduce social isolation. We do this through our recycling, horticulture and social enterprise along with our Children in Need (Jnr Gap), Comic Relief (Space2Grow) and Big Lottery funded Gap Projects. We have a strong track record of developing and delivering projects with and for children, young people and adults over the past 9 years. In recognition of this we received the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service in 2010. Some other notable achievements include: *Securing The People’s Millions Award from The Big Lottery for our Garden Centre, Coffee Shop, Community Allotments and Green Gym* Securing funding from Big Lottery for the Gap Project, a major 4 year project: (transitions project for 16-25 year olds) *Securing support for the Jnr Gap project from BBC Children in Need; (transitions project for 5-15 year olds)* Securing European (ESF) Funding to develop our Recycling Social Enterprise Training Programme; (work and training programme for 20 young people and adults)* And most recently a three year award from Comic Relief for our innovative Space2Grow Youth Project.

Charitable purposes
The Charity’s objects (“Objects”) are specifically restricted to the following:- 1) To advance in life and help young people and adults with a learning disability (“the beneficiaries”) to improve their conditions of life through the provision of educational services and vocational activities that deliver greater choice, opportunity, independence and enrichment to a marginalised section of our local community. 2) To promote the social, cultural, physical and spiritual development of young people with learning disabilities by providing facilities in the interests of social welfare for recreation or other leisure-time occupation with the object of improving the conditions of life among the beneficiaries. 3) To promote social inclusion for the public benefit by training persons with a learning disability in the fields of: recycling; horticulture and gardening; catering and hospitality; retailing and related customer service activities; so as to minimise social exclusion and assist with the integration of those persons in the community by preparing them for supported employment opportunities. 4) To develop the capacity and skills of young people and adults with a learning disability, through the delivery of a range of pre-vocational / vocational training courses and enterprise initiatives, in such a way that they are better able to meet their needs and participate more fully in society by placing emphasis on each beneficiary’s abilities rather than any disability they may have.
