Public benefits

The public benefit flowing from our purpose is that the community at large is made more aware of alcohol or other drugs misuse. Families benefit from the support offered by the organisation where an individual may be suffering from the abuse of alcohol or drugs. Associated professionals benefit from the information provided by the organisation as

do community groups or other interested stakeholders. Young people and adults benefit by being educated through drop in sessions and workshops, ongoing PR so that they have an increased awareness of the dangers of alcohol or drug misuse. Individual addicts benefit from being signposted to appropriate counselling/support. Health and mental health teams benefit from having clients directed towards their services by the association. These benefits are measured by feedback from clients, families and community groups and from the associated Statutory Agencies. They are also measured by external audits conducted by the Public Health Agency and by quarterly reports to the DHSSPS using their impact measuring tool. The Association reports on all of its activities every 6 weeks to the management committee. It reports quarterly to the PHA and its work is summarised in reports to the AGM. There is no private benefit flowing from any of our purposes except for the skills and knowledge obtained by the general public from our education services. The only other private benefit is the payment of wages to the Association's full time workers but this is incidental and necessary for the ongoing operation of the Association. There is no potential harm arising from the purposes of TIPSA.

What your organisation does

TIPSA is an organisation which works closely with the Public Health Agency, the mental health teams, community organisations, families and individuals who are affected by alcohol or drug misuse. Our aim is to increase awareness based on evidence of the impact and dangers of alcohol and drug misuse. We offer a range of drop-in sessions and

workshops in locations throughout Mid-Ulster. We work with individuals or families experiencing difficulties related to drug or alcohol misuse. We offer signposting services to other support agencies and to the statutory services offered by the health and mental health teams employed by the Public Health Agency. We try to educate individuals, families and community organisations in an effort to create attitudinal or behaviour change.
