Public benefits

The trustees believe that our purpose satisfies both elements of the public benefit requirements. Purpose two: The advancement of education The purpose of St Brigid's Play School is primarily concerned with the advancement of education. St Brigid's Play School has many benefits that are concerned with ensuring that all children of a particular

age have a high level of pre-school education. We are concerned with ensuring children have opportunities to make a good start to learning and build the necessary social and interpersonal skills in a informal, play environment. Purpose five: The advancement of citizenship or community development: As part of a rural community it also is concerned with the advancement of citizenship and community development ensuring children from the socially deprived area in which it is located, have opportunities to develop academically from a young age. The main sector of the Community who benefit from our organisation are children of pre-school age, however there are implicit benefits for parents and the wider community of Mountfield. The most direct benefit beneficiaries are the children of pre-school age. They have an opportunity to learn social and communication skills through a playful, interactive curriculum. Children develop the confidence to separate from their parents and form friendships and familiarity with other adults. Consequently this can bring many indirect benefits to adults and family life, assisting working parents and providing a social meeting point for many mothers in what is quite a rural, isolated environment. We provide a safe, nurturing environment where parents feel comfortable to leave their child for a short period each day. This allows parents time to engage in part-time work, or other roles and responsibilities reducing the demands of being a parent. Obviously as a Community there are numerous wider benefits as children are more prepared for school, helping them learn more effectively. The involvement and high level of importance placed on Speech and Language at the pre-school, helps society to identify early speech difficulties and deal with them in a swift manner. Consequently this reduces learning difficulties and problems in later life. By ensuring children get a 'good start' we are benefiting the local community as a whole. A private benefit which may arise could be the development in skills and education gained by staff through training provided by the Play School. These benefits are incidental and necessary to ensure the benefit is provided to our beneficiaries.

What your organisation does

The purpose of St Brigid's Play School is to advance education through provision of high quality pre-school education for children of pre-school age in the Mountfield area of County Tyrone. We provide a daily service to the local community of Mountfield, Co. Tyrone. The Play School is open from 9am - 12.15pm daily Monday to Friday. Through a range of activities we ensure our children are physically and emotionally healthy, eager and able to learn, respectful of difference and strong, competent and visible in their communities.
