We provide food to those who are struggling to feed their little families , senior citizens who also are struggling, Our source of referrals come from social services, health visitors, community nurses, teachers, citizens advice bureau , our aim is to have relevant information how many are in the family ages of children/senior citizens if couples
or single so as to provide suitable content for their needs...All foods distributed are non perishables that are supplied by members of the community fresh goods i.e milk, bread, eggs , fresh meat are bought on the day of delivery...We keep records of numbers of referrals and use that list to ensure they receive hampers to see them through Christmas, any monies donated is used to buy coal, a couple of drums of heating oil or those with electric pay as you go meters we would get vouchers thus ensuring they have food and heat. Their gain is not having to worry about feeding their children and themselves , children were going to school without breakfast and mum and dad were not getting sufficient meals as they would keep what supplies they had to ensure the children ate. We receive wonderful feed back from those we were able to help and have also had a couple of the families keep in touch and now their partners are in full time work and have so kindly made donations to the storehouse. Our work does not bring any harm to our referrals - all referrals are kept in the strictness of confidentially and all records are kept secure.
What your organisation does
Whitehead Storehouse has one main function: * To gather and distribute food stuffs, heating fuel, general household goods and items of personal hygene. This is done by Whitehead Storehouse being a centre to collect and gather items donated by local individuals and organisations. This done in co-ordination with other local organisation - for
example the local churches, the local community association and local retail businesses. The storage of items is done centrally at our main site - the local Presbyterian chuch. We then - in consultation with local statutory and voluntary agencies - distribute the food directly to those in need.
