Public benefits

Purposes: 1) To advance the arts and culture. 2) To advance environmental protection. 3) To advance in life and help children and young people through providing support and activities which develop their social, physical, emotional and intellectual wellbeing as well as their individual creativity. 4) To advance the education of artists, teachers,

students and any other person working in a facilitative role. The Board of Play Resource believe that the three purposes satisfy both elements of the public benefit requirement. Purpose 1 The direct benefits which flow from this purpose include improved self-reported subjective wellbeing. Refer to The Value of the Arts and Culture to People and Society an evidence review (Arts Council of England 2014 – Health and Well Being). These benefits can be demonstrated through feedback and evaluations from participants on our Creative Paths Art Programme. This purpose does not lead to harm. The charity’s beneficiaries are people living in Northern Ireland without unfairly discriminating on the grounds of sex, political opinion, religious conviction, race, national origin or language. The charities beneficiaries also include government departments such as DCAL and ACNI. Purpose 2 The direct benefits which flow from this purpose include diverting waste from landfill sites. These benefits can be demonstrated through recording the amount of waste collected from suppliers and the number of visits made to suppliers per annum. This purpose does not lead to harm. The charity’s beneficiaries are people living in Northern Ireland without unfairly discriminating on the grounds of sex, political opinion, religious conviction, race, national origin or language. The charities beneficiaries also include the general public, suppliers and environmental government departments. Purpose 3 The direct benefits which flow from this purpose include developing social, physical, emotional and intellectual wellbeing, as well as individual creativity. The direct benefit which will flow from this purpose is the collection of waste materials by member groups to allow people to participate in creative artistic activities in their own settings throughout Northern Ireland thus developing new skills. These benefits can be demonstrated through membership renewals and visits by member groups to Play Resource. This purpose does not lead to harm. The charity’s beneficiaries are children and young people up to the age of 25 living in Northern Ireland without unfairly discriminating on the grounds of sex, political opinion, religious conviction, race, national origin or language. The charities beneficiaries also include anyone working with children and young people up to the age of 25 and also family members of such. Purpose 4 The direct benefits which flow from this purpose include increased knowledge and confidence of the participants in delivering creative activities. The direct benefit that will flow from this purpose is using the medium of art by the provision of training to participants thus developing new skills. These benefits can be demonstrated through delivering 8 workshops per annum in Play Resource. This purpose does not lead to harm. The charity’s beneficiaries are people living in Northern Ireland without unfairly discriminating on the grounds of sex, political opinion, religious conviction, race, national origin or language. The charities beneficiaries also include the general public, suppliers and environmental government departments.

What your organisation does

Play Resource supports the development and self-esteem of children and young people by providing materials for arts and creative activities.In particular we source materials from industry and commerce –materials that would otherwise be thrown away which alternatively can be re-used to provide an amazing source of creativity.The majority of groups

working with children and young people in Northern Ireland are members of Play Resource, including schools, youth clubs, playgroups and churches.Our creative activities and resources support the development of children and young people, particularly the most marginalised, developing their creative potential and building self-esteem.Play Resource provides the following: Resources • The Scrapstore –providing 500tons of recycled waste materials for creative arts activities to9000 member groups • The Art & Play Shop –selling over £250,000 worth of art materials per year • Ideas and Inspiration –providing an online resource library • Social media –Member groups are increasingly using our social media avenues –Facebook, e-bulletin, Twitter and Pinterest • Creative Paths Arts Programme providing arts projects with high calibre community artists –reaching200 groups and5000 children and young people • Kids in Transition Programme –we will continue to run this programme that is aimed at P7 classes to support the children while exploring issues that are relevant to their needs, interests, emotions and experiences around this time • 10 Partnership Arts Project per year • Infant Mental Health Programme –develop and pilot an infant mental health programme to work with Health and Wellbeing officers in the Public Health Agency Training • Training Programme for artists covering safegaurding, kids in transition, arts and older people and disability • Community Arts & Crafts Training Course –8 week programmes aimed at those working in the voluntary and community sectors • Teacher Training Arts Programme with the BELB and SEELB

Charitable purposes

The Charity’s objects (“Objects”) are specifically restricted to the following: (a) To advance the creative arts and culture and advance environmental protection by promoting the use of recycled materials for the benefit of the public in Northern Ireland and on the island of Ireland (the ‘area of benefit’) and to provide resources and facilities for recreational and leisure time activity in the interests of social welfare for people living in the area of benefit who have need by reason of their youth, age, infirmity or disability, poverty or social and economic circumstances with a view to improving the conditions of life of such persons; (b) To advance in life and help children and young people through providing support and activities which develop their social, physical, emotional and intellectual wellbeing, as well as their individual creativity; (c) To advance the education of artists, teachers, students and any other person working in a facilitative role using the medium of art by the provision of training and by any other means as the directors shall consider appropriate.
