Public benefits

** The direct benefits that flow from the purpose include: 1. The Schools. The Trust will give financial support & encouragement to various Schools from different faith backgrounds, or none, who wish to start or expand joint projects that afford opportunities for their students to learn from & experience cross community activity. This will promote

the provision of out of school education opportunities including the arts, outdoor activities and general business skills. 2. The Students. Individual students, from different community backgrounds, who take part in these joint activities, will have a unique opportunity to meet & learn about each other in a cross community context that is not provided elsewhere by the schools. This will promote the advancement of cross faith understanding, community integration & tolerance. ** These benefits will be demonstrated through feedback via 1. School Reports. Annual Project Reports will be prepared by the participating schools. 2. Surveys. The participating schools will also provide comparative information year on year, to demonstrate the number of students participating and the degree of success. e.g. the number of “Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme” passes, etc. 3. Student Reports. Some Individual students will be selected to write a report on each project. Collectively these documents will provide evidence of the benefits described above. ** It is not envisaged that the purposes of our Charity will lead to any harm, except by way of accident to a participating student, particularly if any project involves outdoor activity. ( NOTE: The Charity does not directly organise or take responsibility for any project the Schools may organise. The Charity only provides financial assistance so that the schools have enough money to proceed with any particular activity they plan) We can show that this harm, by way of accident, is outweighed by the benefits because 1. The schools will apply all the normal Health & Safety regulations, as they do with any of their normal school activities. 2. The accident rate will be no greater than in normal school activities and hence it can be concluded that the benefit outweighs any accidental harm. ** The Charity’s beneficiaries are Firstly those students in fulltime education and particularly those age 15 to 18, who will be offered places on these extra-curricular projects organised by their schools. They will gain a valuable understanding of other young people from a different culture & background to their own, by having shared experiences and achievements and the possibility of lasting friendships. Secondly those schools serving different communities, that decide to jointly organise these various cross community projects. They will gain respect & kudos in the general field of education. Thirdly, the Northern Ireland population as a whole. This is because those students, who acquire this wider understanding of other cultures & backgrounds, are likely to have fewer prejudices and are therefore likely to be more tolerant citizens in adulthood. ** The only private benefit flowing from this purpose is very limited & incidental. It may arise in the following circumstances 1. The projects jointly organised by the schools require teachers & other adults to have achieved the required qualifications for leading & supervising student projects. 2. In the event that none of the schools have a suitably qualified teacher or other adult available at the required time & place, then non qualified adults may be sent for qualifying training & certification, to be available as a leader when the project starts. 3. Charity funds may be used to pay for these training courses & therefore the participating adult will get private benefit, having achieved a qualification. 4. However this benefit is incidental and necessary for the beneficiaries as a whole.

What your organisation does

We became aware that some secondary schools in the Dungannon area, from different faith backgrounds, or none, have jointly organised extra curricular activities for their senior students. ( Arts competitions, Duke of Edinburgh Award programmes, etc) The purpose of these activities is that senior students from different faith backgrounds or none,

are given the opportunity to meet, compete, socialize and make friends. This is something that promotes good community relations & understanding. Because these joint activities are extra curricular, they are not directly funded by the Dept. of Education. The schools therefore struggle to find funds to run these joint programmes. Therefore this Charity organisation does two things 1. Raise Funds We seek voluntary donations from individuals and organisations that wish to support our objectives 2. Provide Grants & financial support for the Schools We invite applications from schools that participate in these joint activities. Where an application meets the criteria set down by the trustees, and the funding need is clearly demonstrated then an appropriate amount is granted from our funds.
