Public benefits
The public benefit flowing from the purposes of Shopmobility Magherafelt is that individuals with mobility issues can be helped and advised as regards their mobility needs. They are also able to access a range of electric and manual wheelchairs and other mobility aids. This means that individuals are able to become more mobile and more
independent. People can shop for themselves by accessing wheelchairs at their local shopping centre. This also benefits their extended families who do not have to accompany such individuals at all times. The availability of the equipment means that individuals with mobility impairments are able to borrow or loan specific equipment which enables them to go on holiday, attend hospital appointments or just use them for day to day living. A further public benefit is that the organisation provides information, brochures, leaflets, talks on issues relating to the needs of people who have a mobility impairment. This provides the public, the statutory authorities, schools with up to date information about mobility issues thus providing an important educational tool for people with mobility issues. The benefits are measured by the numbers of people utilising the service and by the numbers of leaflets, brochures, talks, promoted by Shopmobility. Users are asked to give their opinions about the service to Shopmobility staff by filling in questionnaires so that the service can be enhanced or modified according to need. There is no harm flowing from any of the activities of Shopmobility Magherafelt and no private benefit except for the wages paid to Shopmobility staff which is necessary for the delivery of the service.
