Public benefits
The direct benefit which flows from our purposes is the interaction of disabled and non-disabled, leading to a greater awareness of the needs of disabled people and knowledge of the issues affecting them. Also there is increased social interaction and reduced social isolation and respite for parents, carers and siblings. The benefits are
demonstrated by the number of attendees and informal feedback from parents, carers and siblings on the services provided. The beneficiaries are the children with learning disabilities their parents, carers and siblings. Membership is open to all children with disabilities from 4-18 within the Lurgan area. There is no private benefit or harm flowing from our purposes.
What your organisation does
The Lurgan Junior Gateway club provides social opportunities for children with special needs. The aim of the club is to provide a weekly opportunity for children to come together in a social setting. We also encourage the members siblings to take part in the club aswell which helps every child interact with each other and promote Diversity and
Equality. We are completely voluntary and rely on weekly membership payment of £2 per family and donations from local businesses . The club activities include arts and crafts, Table top activities , computing and we run activity programs where outside agencies come to interact with the children. We hope to extend the range of activities over the next few months. From Wednesday 7/01/2015 the club will be running from 6.00 - 7.30 in Links, Castle Lane, Lurgan. The club is open to all children with special needs up until the age of 18.
